I for one, love the open endednous of this assignment.  No one will be pigeon holed here.  Scripts should run a very wide gambit and it's even possible, we'll have over 20 different themes playing out.

Looks like some research will be required as Balt pointed out.  Let's do out homework and give Rick a whole shitload of scripts he can turn into winning shorts.

YES!!!

I do agree with Jeff on the broad nature being a win for the readers... At least we won't be reading the same basic scripts, tweaked ever so slightly this go around.  Even though I absolutely loved the October OWC a great deal.

I've got 3 pages of content hammered out for this one, though.  Don't freak out, most of it is dialogue and various ideas and themes.  I'm going to write a page for a handful of ideas and go with the one that I find the most appealing or interesting/fun to write.

I really like the fact that he let us modernise, modify and combine ideas. That lets us be somewhat free with the subject we choose.

Pretty interesting challenge! I'm in for sure.

I'll start brainstorming - have some ideas already with my Scottish ancestry and from walking the West Highland Way years ago.

Agree with Jeff and Balt that the submissions will all be varied and unique - good stuff.

Yeah I'm in for this one.

Quick question for Pia or Rick...

By 'no acting animals' do you mean no animals at all? Can we have, for instance, a dog that just has to run in a particular direction?

I'm good either way, but would like to know before I get started.

Cheers

Ste

Page length requirements..?

Around ten minutes or less, but a couple of pages extra isn't going to be a deal breaker.

Quoted from Baltis.
Does it have to take place in England and with English actors?  I ask this because the tone of dialect will have to match for me.  If there is one thing I need 100% authentic it's the dialogue.

English/Celtic Mythology does seem broad but maybe a little too broad.  I was hoping for something more restrictive to be honest... Something that allowed us to work with the least amount of viable means, yet use the most creativity.

I dunno... Like I said, I'll probably do something here but I certainly need to brush up on both my English lore and Celtic Mythology now looking back in retrospect.

It should take place in the UK...but the actors don't necessarily need to be British.

As for dialects...obviously film is a collaborative medium so it will be possible to work with local actors and authenticate/modify dialogue at a later date to make it as genuine as possible. So you could just concentrate on writing good dialogue and make it clear that the "locals" are speaking in a certain way. That's a matter of personal choice, I suppose.

You can have animals around...cows on a farm etc. I just don't want them to have to do something specific...run off, find the dead guy and bark..attack the killer during the climax.

If for some reason you feel it's crucial for a dog to run in a singular direction at one point, then it probably won't be a major problem...but it would be nice if you could think of something else!

No druids?  You suck, Rick!

Phil

Druids are in there....they're part of the myth of some of the topics mentioned.

Typical Adobe After Effects type special effects?
Or even some simple green screen efffects?
Since this is low budget, no wireframe modeling and animation like Maya, right?

It seems like just about all of the concepts given had something to do with water.  Is that a preference for location?  Some were even creatures that lived under water.

Very unique idea for this challenge by the way.  Totally grabbed my attention.

It can be set in any terrain...it can all take place in the city if you want. There's no preference.

Britain is only small and is surounded by water and filled with lakes, so that probably explains why there are so many water based entities. Plus I only selected myths that seemed possible to create on a low budget, many would require high end special effects to be believable..
