I recently watched one of the most smarter and unpolitically uncorrect movie I ever saw. I'm talking about "Dogma". I found it so daring, fresh aired, and exulting. I wonder if anyone felt the same way I felt though I'm not American.

I thought this movie made a great point regarding religion versus faith.  I see it upsetting people because it makes you think.  And you can't beat Alan Rickman's performance.  His soliloquy (or monologue) halfway through was Oscar worthy.

I think this is a very underestimated movie. I think it's one of the most intelligently written comedies ever. I think it's just kinda put to the side since it's a Kevin Smith movie, but I think the writing in it is excellent, and it's the best looking movie he's done as well. A very Hilarious and smart movie.

"Picture Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd" - George Carlin
"I have to sign before you shoot me?" - Navin Johnson
"It'll take time to restore chaos" - George W. Bush
"Harry, I love you!" - Ben Affleck
"What are you looking at, sugar t*ts?" - The man without a face
"Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death." - Exodus 31:15
"No one ever expects The Spanish Inquisition!" - The Spanish Inquisition
"Matt Damon" - Matt Damon

It's a good film, but like most Kevin Smith films it's kinda over-written and a bit too tongue-in-cheek. Linda Fiorentino is terribly miscast and acts like she's in an emotional straight-jacket throughout the film. When she does get out, she over-acts.

It's a cute film, but it turns into a bit of a celebrity bonanza at one point, having Jason Lee, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, Alan Rickman, not to mention Matt Damon and Ben Affleck all vying for the same airtime.

I didn't get what was supposed to be offending about the film though, but I rarely do. Just yesterday someone claimed to offended by Monster House which he described as being "Anti-mexican" and "racist".

It's just a film?

That is the silliest thing I ever heard next to the stuff some people were whining about on a script in the last OWE.

I think Dogma would make them happy, it talks with an audience who wouldn't even think about these types of themes.

People are too sensitive and need to live in the real world, not their safety bubble.

People ARE, WAY too uptight. Especially when it comes to language, religion, and race. Dogma, I don't get why it got attacked so bad, since I think it has actually a very pro Jesus and God message. But of course nobody looks at it because nobody likes to think. It makes their heads hurt too much.

Also it's problematical that a lot of people don't know what racism actually constitutes, and uses the word frivolously. The incident in Monster House was about a line where the boys say they don't like Mexican food, and the guy got offended because he was mexican.

I kid you not.

Racism means that you believe one race embodies certain characteristics, often better/worse than others. Basically it means that if you're white, certain behavioural parameters entail and if you're black other characteristics entail.

A perfect example of a latent racist is Michael Scott on the office, when he tells Oscar (who is Mexican) to sit out the Basketball game, because 'his talents won't come in handy until Baseball season'.

It's like whenever a film doesn't fill its quota of different ethnicities people pull the race-card. I once read someone who objected to "Elizabeth" about Queen Elizabeth I, calling it racist because there were only white people in it...well it's 16th century England!!! If you weren't white, heterosexual, Anglican you got deported!!!

I honestly think a lot of people out there WANT to be offended when they watch movies. If you look on Imdb, basically every film has a discussion thread about how racist the film was.

It's ridiculous.

The thing with Dogma is, when it was getting made the nutty christians (not talking about all christians, just the nutty ones) sent all this hate mail and letter bombs. Then the movie came out and they actually didn't mind it, well atleast the better half didn't.

I loved this movie. My favorite Kevin Smith movie, though I haven't seen Mallrats or Clerks 2 yet.

I find it extremely hilarious that Catholics were sending death threats. Seems kinda hypocritical to me, but that's just me.

Did any of you see an Evening With Kevin Smith? Cuz in it he talks about how he protested Dogma with all the other Christians when it came out with his friend Brian Johnson and pretended to be someone else. It was a pretty funny story.
