It don't really know if I liked it or not. It was really a cool idea, and the trailer was cool, but really it was just another movie that should have been named Saw 15 or however many there are. Also, it was really hard believing what was really happening. How could a guy set up all these extremely complicated traps in less than 8 hours? How could a girl get pulled into a wall of nails while holding onto scissors attached to a pulley system (I was expecting the scissors to fly out of her hand)? And if this guy really collected bodies, why set up the traps in the first place if he chose which people he wanted to kill and which ones he wanted to keep alive? If one of the ones he wanted to keep escaped, they'd just get killed by the traps, and it would be a waste of time trying to keep the person alive in the first place.
I will admit, the first 30 minutes were great. The beginning was creepy, the character development time frame was well-done, and I was liking it. But once the killer started going around, and the main character was running into all these traps, the Saw theme came in, and it all just went downhill from there. The ending was a complete letdown, as was the twist (I saw it coming before the halfway mark).
So, in summary, this is just a movie for the shock value (with lots of blood and guts, though I did enjoy one of the deaths involving about 7 bear traps), but it does have a lot of tension, which was very well-done, and there was one part where I was shaking in my seat because of a killer canine...But other than that, it's not one that I'll see again.
This is one that I feel could have been awesome, had they not just relied on the gore. Oh, and Sean man, I have to disagree, the first 30 minutes were ok at best. Sure it was creating the story but it was boring. Maybe that's due to my insane hatred of slow buildups in horror? Maybe. The bear traps were cool. Yeah some of all that was a little unrealistic, but hey it's Hollywood. No matter how hard they try, their films will never be another "Poughkeepsie Tapes".
Isle 10- A series I'm currently writing with my friend Adam and it will go into production soon. Think The Office meets 10 Items or Less.
I like this better than all of the Saw sequels. The beginning was a bit slow, but once they got to the house it was awesome. The Killer is really interesting and I'd watch a sequel for his character alone.
How was the production, as in looked good, or looked like crap? I can't find anywhere on teh net where they give the budget. I'd imagine it was under $5 Million, but you never know.
And finally, being arachnophobic, I don't think I can see it, but are there really many scenes involving arachnids?
