A lot of stuff gets filmed in India especially without the writers never knowing about it. I'm willing to bet that's what happened here and then the film turned out good enough that Netflix thought it would play well with the Indian audience and signed with them. I could be wrong of course, but I bet that's what happened. Hopefully they will think it's worth settling with Dave and continue with their plan.
