Here's the poll as it stands now. I can edit it pretty easily, so if I've left anything out, then feel free. Yes, I was conceited enough to throw one of my own in there that I think is pretty good at this point, so it would need fewer comments to fix and more to just read. I added every script that was mentioned, except Bre's who didn't want them in at this point, though hers would work well as a just-read as well. Oh, and I didn't pick the order of the answers to influence the vote. I told the poll to randomize the order, so no one's looking at the answers in the same order...
We never heard from Sniper, no. And I just looked and In Brudges is not available online (so it's been removed). Those are simply all the suggestions made laid out in a poll. One of the suggestions was a random script from the site, and the writer did put it out there to read, so strictly speaking Sniper doesn't "have" to say it's ok if there's a consensus that wants to read it. For what it's worth, I haven't even looked up who wrote Dreamscale's "Red Light" suggestion.
EDIT: I just looked and I can't find another entitled Red Light. Um, Jeff? What is that anyway?
I was the first to mention In Bruges i think, as a script that we could discuss at the Script Club. I saw Pia's reaction to it so I knew it was a no-go. Still that script is brilliant for me.
1. Because I know his writing and it's appealing to me and
2. Because of the title and
3. Because my vote for the Oscar nominees is NOT the ones mentioned here and I'm going to keep it my secret which one I love so much. But some people can probably guess which one it is anyways... and
4. Because Mike's comments on the boards make me laugh.

Sure, I can turn them on. I had them off to try and not influence the voting (no peeking if you haven't voted). I'll kick them on so everyone can see where it is for the moment.
...And they're on. Should be available soon.
I'm actually kind of surprised that mine got any votes at all. Didn't really expect it to. I haven't voted yet in case I need to break a tie, but it's leaning pretty solidly.
So I have gone with Shelton's coffee thing, A because I love Coffee, A2 because I think we should be doing an SS'ers script this time around and F because Shelton promised me $50.
But it was hard voting against Slumdog and In Bruges, and I really like Frozen River so maybe in the future when we decide to do a produced scripts we could go back to the Oscar noms as they are all very good scripts.
I wonder if this is the only vote Slumdog Squarepants will lose this year?
I voted for Frozen River, because I happened to read it last week. I thought it had some glaring problems, and was surprised to find it was an Oscar nominee. But then again, Juno actually won last year, so maybe I shouldn't be so surprised.
Anyway, I'm flexible, so I won't be disappointed when I lose.
Pia... people don't have to comment and post their opinion about the script to learn from the exercise. I was going to post in the last one, but it's over my head. The people posting where at a different stage in scripts and movies to where I am now. I did learn lots though.
Tommy, don't worry about things like that. There is a HUGE difference between sounding like you know what you are talking about and actually knowing what you are talking about.

I am going to try and be proactive this time
Same! I followed the Demon Beach script club, but didn't dare post - didn't feel qualified. Still, I think that becoming a better reader will in turn make me a better writer, so I'm willing to throw myself in there even if I have no idea what I'm doing!
Seems there's only going to be one winner of this, so I'm going to go ahead and start on that script.

This is all about learning. Nobody knows what they're doing when they start out learning anything. Your help and insight might be just what we need to help us learn and develop; so don't hold back.
A diverse group of people that have been around the block a few times as well as inspired newcomers helps fuel the fires of enlightenment.
Also, you don't have to be a pro to watch movies...
Anyone should feel free to voice their opinion. You know when you like something and you know when you don't. So don't be afraid to speak up. We're all friends here even if some have bad tempers.
This is going fairly well and surprising about the 22 votes at this point. It's more surprising that mine has gotten 3 votes so far. But as to whether everyone who votes participates, the one thing that this vote is doing is enticing people with a poll and might bring some new people into the discussion, which would be nice.
The poll might do more than just vote on a script to read... We'll have to keep that in mind going forward. At the moment, it doesn't appear that my tie breaker vote will be needed...
Well, it appears that Coffee & Inspiration has come out on top, so I just thought I'd chime in here real quick since I noticed a lot of people have d-loaded the script off my site in the past few days.
The script on my site and the script on SS are different. The endings go in completely opposite directions, and I just wanted to mention it since people discussing different versions of a script could be potentially disastrous, especially in relation to the ending.
Please decide the version you'd like to use before you begin your reading. For all intents and purposes, the version that is here on SS is what was picked and ultimately filmed. The version on my site was tweaked after another filmmaker found it, but it ultimately fell through.
I'm not sure if that's the rationale behind the recent d-loads, but I just wanted to throw it out there.

Thanks everyone.
Thanks for filling us in. My vote is to study the one that went through some more in its evolutions and is here on SS.

You might entice people more if the scripts chosen to read weren't scripts with dozens of pages of feedback already or produced ones.
That's from an outside perspective.
As for me, I'm always glad when people read a feature around here.
I'm amazed this couldn't wait until mike and I had a draft done by tonight/Sunday, instead we are still waiting for a poll that proves people had pretty much decided on Coffee and Inspiration. ... Same script that was suggested days ago...

Yes, Coffee & Inspiration did take it in the polls, and I would definitely select the one that was filmed, so it'll be the one on SS as opposed to Shelton's site. I'll have that link and new thread up shortly.
I also thought I would answer a couple other things that cropped up here. First, to Wes's inquiry as to up selecting scripts with pages of feedback or something produced. We found in reading a produced script that we get a different sort of benefit from reading something produced/polished than something that could use a fresh set of eyes for feedback.
For scripts from this site in desperate need of a read, we approach the scripts from a perspective of giving feedback to the writer to help improve the work. We get an idea of other people's individual styles and what they look for in a script as well as bounce feedback off of other people in an active forum as opposed to the piecemeal feedback one generally gets. It's more beneficial to the writer than anyone else, though.
For produced scripts, we dig into what possessed someone to produce the script to begin with. We look into strengths and weaknesses as well as how the script works within its own genre. It shows us why something was marketable and is more beneficial to the entire group since the writer generally won't benefit from anything we say (unless they lurk, and I wouldn't put it past them).
As for Pia's comment, well, hindsight is always 20/20 and there were a plethora of suggestions thrown out. I did have your collaboration up until you asked me to take it down. At the time I removed it, it was 50/50 between it and Coffee & Inspiration. You said the draft would be done over the weekend, so I had the poll go to Sunday to allow that time. Before it was removed from the running, the vote could have gone either way, and I figured it was between those two scripts all along. Once the collab was removed, it was a landslide and the poll lost its true purpose.
