As a disclaimer, I’m not an attorney, so this isn’t legal advice, but...
It depends on the specifics of your contract. As long as you’re the sole owner of the script, you should be fine. An option gives the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an asset. An option, by definition, is not a sale.
If I was you (and I’m not, I’m much prettier ), I would check my option agreement, make sure there’s nothing to preclude this competition, then enter.

Thanks for the heads up...
"Deliver Me Death" (which Jeremy Garner, producer/director/FX guy re-named "Deliver Me Midnight") was suppose to be shot and filmed already, but he stopped contacting and returning contacts over a year ago.
I got paid for it, a slew of production shots and some raw video footage of the film -- but the lead actor quit out on him, they needed to regroup for funding and then it kind of fell apart from there. He said they'd re-start filming in 2011 and never did.
Too bad because he was certainly capable, from what I received, to handle the mood and temperament of what I was going for.
Oh well... it comes and goes I've come to know. But looking over the contract, the rights fell back into my favor -- so it's fair game to re-shop around. I wasn't too sure of contest going though as this is the 1st year I've truly spent time weeding through all of them and really entering them.
Hell, to be honest, it's the 1st time I've had enough good material to do it with... I don't feel like I have "the one" script to end all scripts, but a few really good scripts that I don't mind spending a little more money on to see where they fall in line.
P.S. I'm much prettier with make-up. You caught me on an off day~
