According to Variety, New Line has won feature rights to Microsoft and Epic Games' hugely popular vidgame Gears of War. Stuart Beattie is penning the adaptation while Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are producing via their Temple Hill banner.

Say goodbye to the greatest game available on XBOX 360. Jesus, do they need to ruin this?

Stuart Beattie is a good writer. You never know, could turn out okay.

We will see.

I'm just really not too happy with the constant rate nowadays that writers are adapting videogames. Hitman, Gears of War, Halo. Next thing ya' know, we'll have Viva La Pinata, or whatever that game is called where you do weird things with the pinatas.

Like always, Hollywood can't get original. It totally amuses me how many writers on here are so creative and original, but Hollywood insists on picking horrendous writers.

What has Beattie written before?

One thing is Hollywoods lack of creativity, but how does making a bad adaptation of a video game 'ruin' the game? Did the crappy Spiderman games ruin the movie? Did the Fight Club game?

He has a Screen Story credit on the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. He also wrote the 2004 Michael Mann thriller Collateral. For more info:

And he's an Aussie. Aw yeah!

Cheers, Chismeister.

Could be entertaining R-rated violent garbage, if they go that route.  I'd be skeptical of any sort of potential for quality.

The games story wasn't very satisfying. I wanted to know more about the locust hord. hopefully the movie will answer all of my questions, and hopefully the dialoge isn't caveman like.
