Not enough time to look at all of it but what I did see looks very well mapped out.
Really looking forward to seeing both All About Janet and Smackhead. Got a release date for Janet yet and what are your plans for it?
Janet is doing the festival runs this year so is tied up for months. It is finished and we're happy with it for a first film. We learned a lot doing it. The main thing being that we needed a real DP who understands things like lenses and lighting. We'll start shooting Smackhead in around 3 weeks and it's a completely different animal. We shot Janet in mostly one day, we managed 9 minutes of film in 8 hours... which is amazing... from what I've heard, we did at least 3 days work in one day. With Smackhead, we're taking our time and have a more professional crew. Our DP has two degrees in the subject, another cameraman has form with the BBC and ITV (our two largest TV stations)... we even have a trained acting coach and pro make-up artists, well one pro and two of her students that are studying at degree level.
We've even got actors, at least three, willing to travel a couple hundred miles at their own expense to act in the film. One of them is a trained stunt woman.
So we should be learning even more from this shoot... and we're almost at the stage where we want to tackle a feature. As you build a team, you not only have your own work to go by, but theirs too. So, as a unit, we're starting to look fairly impressive.
It's interesting to see how others do a shot list. Mine is much leaner, most certainly because I'm the one shooting it.

Our DP does want more lenses... but we don't want to spend the cash buying them. We're considering renting as we also need more light. It also depends which cameramen we have available on the day, as when working for expenses, if a real job comes up, we lose a member of the team.
We're using a 5D Mark 2 for this shoot as the main camera, with 2 600Ds (for Janet we used a 7D with a 600D). Sound will be recorded using our NTG-2 shotgun. For lighting at the moment we own 3 red heads, two old theatre spotlights (1000w each) and a couple of LEDs. My mate, also producing the films, has just hand-built a heavy duty Jib and a dolly track where the cameraman can actually sit down while being pulled along by another person.
I've never been very much into DIY... so I'm always impressed when people make things like that. So we now have a heavy duty Jib and dolly track for a fraction of the price.
I wouldn't be able to show you what shots came from what camera. The 600s are used for off cuts. The main footage comes from the better camera. Plus the film has been graded and denoised. The images will look quite crisp compared to the original.
