'Xortex' is about a telepathic avatar simulation who says that everybody and everything is only his unconscious mind and imagination and that he is the entire universe itself like a '(false) god in a coma' lucid dreaming.
As in the grand tradition of 'The God Thing', 'The Questor Tapes', and the character of 'Q', he also has an identity complex and amnesia.
Solving the central overarching mystery of who or what Xortex is and what his purpose is and whether he's a harbinger of peace or destruction while finding his creator would be the new primary mission directive, short or long term, as evidence and proof would be discovered along the way, uncomfortably and unbelievably, even, as it need not be true.
This could be shoehorned or submarined in as a modified template device and new direction that would make aliens virtually obsolete and unnecessary. but it WOULDN'T change anything, and would sustain and support the brand going into the future as technically one final prequel that takes place outside of any one continuity or timeline, sidestepping them altogether.
Xortex has no powers other than he can extend his energy around the ship and crew to protect them and can transport himself and others anywhere with his mind and is telepathic, which is why all the aliens speak perfect English.
It is 'Alice in Wonderland' with ray guns, literally.
I consider it a game-changing paradigm and a better mouse trap.
