Are we talking about real football (aka Soccer for you yanks) or the watered down commercial interrupted girly type of football played in the NFL? |

A lesser known football movie is The Best of Times with Kurt Russell and Robin Williams. Pretty decent comedy.
Necessary Roughness and The Longest Yard (the original) are also good. |

Shaolin Soccer (Real football) but certain people will not enjoy this film because it is CGI based soccer action and not die hard "realistic" action.
American style football how about Remember The Titans or Gridiron Gang. Gridiron Gang catches a lot of negative press because it has The Rock but if you've never known him as a wrestler you can't judge him as an actor based on that.
And don't forget The Longest Yard (Either version) |

I'll go The Slaughter Rule for number one. It's one of Ryan Gosling's early films. 2/ Friday Night Lights which Varsity Blues actually ripped off. Sure Varsity Blues came out at the movies first, but the Friday Night Lights book preceded it, or so I'm lead to believe. I don't really have a third, although I'm keen to see Dallas North Forty. I’ve heard it’s a great film. Unfortunately there has never been a good movie made about Australian Rules Football. In fact I only know of two movies that have revolved around Aussie Rules and both of them weren't much chop. I guess the reason for this is that we don't have big enough film budgets to do our great game justice on the big screen. I guess the only option would be to do a behind the scenes look at football life, that way we wouldn't have to fill stadiums to stage matches. Here's a website that specializes in sports movies: http://www.sportsinmovies.com/ |

Any one seen 'We Are Marshall'? It's one of the best football movies I've ever seen, but I can't seem to find out when it's released on DVD.

Coming from Texas, I have to say that any movie that tries to capture that "Friday night and I'm at a football game feeling" fails. I guess that's just me. I never actually played football, but I had season passes with my parents, so we went to about every home game until I was 14 or so.
I've never seen a movie to really capture what it's like. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS comes close.

I try to avoid these kinds of movies. Not only football movies, but any kinds of sports movies. I've never been much if a sports kinda guy, and I've never been able to really get into a movie that has a lot of it. I enjoyed Remember the Titans though. For what it was, it was good. And Denzel Washington can always be counted upon to carry a movie.

REMEMBER THE TITANS also has Kip Pardue. Love him!
I don't mind these movies too much... except they can be a little predictable. The protagonist team (Can a team be a protagonist) will always win in the end. I don't think I've ever seen one lose. If the movies became about the players instead of the sport, I may like it better.
I'm still waiting for a good swim team movie. |

There are movies where the protagonist team loses in the end. |
