I'm currently buried under almost 10,000 words as I enter the crazy world of Nanowrimo month.
It's entirely exhilarating to leave the world of screen for awhile and enter the a place where I can splatter words across the page in an unruly way: Kind of like throwing paint against the wall.
I'm normally working together with my internal editor because I polish things to death and I put a lot of time into sparse works; now, however, I locked her up. She's in a room and she's banging on the door. I open the door every once in awhile to give her a cup of coffee or some bread and a bowl of soup, but she's not allowed into this universe until after I've done at least 70 k this month.
The requirments for completing Nano are 50 thousand words by the end of November and that clock ticking away on their home page is unnerving; so I've decided to make 7000 words a day be my goal for the next week. I've got strategy here you see-- because once I finish it, I can let my editor out of the room. Yay!!!
So I won't be too active in the forum for the next month, but Tim, I promise: Your crit is the first thing on my list tomorrow.
Sounds like you've really taken to the sipirt of Nanowrimo. Good luck (most of all, though, just have fun -- as i'm sure you are -- writing should be enjoyed)!
Over and over again until you hit your word count.
Kidding - Sandra will never be a dull girl.
These kinds of methods may need to be employed yet. If I get stuck, I may just do that until I jog something loose upstairs. Maybe I already have and I don't know it.
Hey, I've seriously considered introducing a character who stutters: "And..and...and.." And I don't say that with any kind of meanness. My father actually used to stutter sometimes. Not all the time, but when he did, it was really hard for him to get his words out. I miss my dad. I miss my mom. I miss...
Well, you know where this is going now. I guess we all know that humor comes from pain.
