Is the strike going to cancel this years Oscars and Golden Globes?  Any insiders know what's going on?

Golden Globe nominees were announced yesterday, or Wednesday.  I forget which day, but it looks like they'll be going on.  I don't see any reason why they'd cancel them anyway.

I heard somewhere that the WGA had signed some kind of waiver freeing up some writers to write material for the Golden Globes. I don't know if that's true or not, but I remember hearing about it on some movie rumour show down here. They're still going ahead with the Globes, so we can only assume that they'll do the same for the Oscars as well.

Just because they announce the nominees doesn't mean there'll be a ceremony. Actors still have to cross the picket lines and writers still have to write the script.

Is it considered acting, or more along the lines of reality TV?  Is writing a script for an awards show akin to writing for a WGA signatory?

I believe so. It's still written, and since it's by a production company, they'd have to use a signatory. It's like any other thing. There are still producers, a director, lights, crew, etc.

Just did a little bit of research, and it looks like the Globes has requested a waiver from the WGA  that they're yet to receive.

I'm guessing without that, there's no show.

Bad news. It looks like the WGA is refusing to let the writers write the shows.

Who said we didn't have power?
