Instead of a choosing the best movie of 2007, how about the best review of a movie in 2007?

Mark Kermode is a brilliant outspoken but highly knowledgeable film critic from the UK, he is most famous for his weekly review show on Radio 5 that is podcast every week - I would highly recommend the podcast for all movie fans, It's on iTunes or the Radio 5 website - very entertaining.

Anyway, he hated Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - absolutely detested it his review of it was the highlight of my movie year - It is well worth a listen even if you did like the movie - the review is very funny.

I'm just happy that I'm not the only one who didn't like it.

It was amusing, though I would have preferred that the jackass look at the camera that's showing him around the world, but you can't get everything.

While I liked the development of Elizabeth, I agree that making her the "King of the Pirates" was absolutely ridiculous.

And sure enough, IMDB says that they began shooting without a completed script, which would explain why the film is so convoluted, but I'd like to see who first reported that.

I don't, however, agree with his assessment of the first two films.  Dead Man's Chest was a step down from the first, but it was still a fun ride.  And Black Pearl I consider to be one of the funnest adventure films of all time.  Seriously, how can you not find something to like about that movie?

I liked the original, but the other 2 were just bad. They didn't seem to have any structure.

Funny, I thought the same when I saw it the first time. And then I saw it again on DVD and only there did it hit...man, this is actually quite boring.

To be fair and unless you were a listener of the show you would not know but this is actually a weekly radio show, they just tried a couple of video podcasts for an experiment in the summer but were keen to not turn it into a TV show. It was an interesting experiment and nothing more.

I really cannot recommend the podcast from itunes or the BBC radio 5 website, The 'jackass' Mark Kermode really is a huge fan of decent movies and very knowledgeable and the show is very entertaining. One of the highlights of my week is Saturday mornings listening to the podcast helping me decide what movies to watch.

I have discovered some wonderful independent films that I never would have known about was it not for Mark Kermode.

That was funny! Especially 'cause I agree. I love when he talks about Keira Knightley being "the king of all pirates in the whole world ever"!

And this one about keira Knightley's wooden acting: "You really feel like you could build a nice piece of Ikea furniture out of Keira's acting. When Orloondo Bland is on-screen with her it's like watching two chairs mate!"

HAHAHA!

I figured it was something like that, but even in a podcast...I mean at least a glance at the camera would have been nice, but now I'm really swaying from what the point of this thread was ha-ha.

You are right, it was an interesting experiment and thanks for posting it!

Check out his Transformers review as well! I know I'm rather alone on these boards on disliking that film, but he just gets EVERYTHING right about it!

"You have helicopters turning into robots, robots turning into cars, sadly what you don't have is Michael Bay turning into a director who can direct"

"Megan Fox is the girl next door he wants to pick up. Obviously, this being a Michael Bay film, she's meant to be 17 but she looks like a 32 year-old pole dancing stripper."

"The film is 2½ hours long, it feels like 4 years. You take an 8-year-old into see this by the time you get out he'll be old enough to go straight out and watch Emanuelle and the last Cannibals"

As part of my research on the disappointing "No Country for Old Men" I came across this review. Its well worth reading, especially if, like me, you thought the ending sucked.

It contains spoilers.
