I just caught on the news that actor Roy Scheider just died, apparently of complications from a staph infection (according to Wikipedia). Scheider is most memorable for his role as Sheriff Brody from Jaws. He was 75.
Jaws was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid and still is one of my favorites. Scheider definitely made Sheriff Brody memorable and was strong in the few other films I've seen him in even when in smaller roles. Definitely a loss.
Man, bummer. Roy rocked. He was a badass on SeaQuest! You will be missed, my friend.

Why do celebrities die in three's?
You know, when I saw Renfro in there I wasn't surprised, but thought I had missed something. Indeed he died about two weeks ago. I guess I thought he had died earlier because I know he had problems with drugs for a long time.
That does suck. His contribution to Jaws can't be understated. He added a real humanity to that movie. Without him and his character, I don't think Jaws would have become the classic that it is.
His most recent role I recall was as a CEO of an insurance company in The Rainmaker.

Just found out this morning while eating breakfast. I liked him in Jaws. In fact, that's the only movie I saw with him in it (not including Jaws 2). Who's next???
He was a fine actor. It's a shame he wasn't able to sustain his A-list status but he seemed to keep working in TV and various "B" movies for quite some time. He was great in Jaws, my all time favorite movie, as well as All That Jazz, The Seven Ups, The French Connection, Sorcerer, etc. R.I.P. indeed, Chief Brody!
