I never read the manga or watched the anime so to me it was a pretty unique idea and really interesting. Obviously others thought so too since the doing an American remake.

Fair enough. But if you liked the movie you should definitely check out the source, the anime at least. The movie is a weak broken shell of the anime, especially Part II which seriously departed from the source. And please understand, my beef in and of itself is not that they departed from the source material, it is that they decided to tell a poorer story-- for originality's sake I suppose-- when they could have told a much better one.

Yeah, the core concept was interesting enough to carry the movie but I also think it has a lot to do with the built in fans base and cross over appeal... movie still sucked though. Hopefully Hollywood does a better job.
I think I may enjoy subtitled movies a bit more than American movies. I don't know what it is, I just enjoy it. I loved The orphanage and The Eye. Very good films. I do have to agree with what Breanne said about going back through though. That is the only part I hate about subtitled movies.
At Blockbuster, when you rent a film with subtitles, they're required to tell the customer, just in case they didn't know. My friend, who works there, said she couldn't believe how many people turn right around and head back to the shelves to put it back.
She said when "Pan's Labyrinth" came out, people were outraged when they found out it was subtitled. Actually, I remember when I saw that in the theaters, the SECOND the subtitles appeared, I could hear whispers throughout the entire crowd.
