Reminds of when Iron Maiden made Christmas no.1 with "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter" because of a rush to stop Cliff Richard having a hit with his usual mush. (Was it "Mistletoe and Wine" that year?)
Mind you, with the Christmas charts taken over by the likes of Cowell nowadays, I feel quite nostalgic for the wintery songs of yesteryear. Come back Cliff, all is forgiven.
Best news I've heard all day. I've never heard the Rage Against the Machine track but I'm feed up with the X-Factor winner taking the number one spot every year. So glad that Miley Cyrus karaoke effort never made it.
Charlie Brooker's blog about RATM vs X-Factor is very funny, and I quote-
'Compare this to the pissweak vocal doodle that is Joe McElderry's X Factor single. For a song whose lyrics ostensibly document an attempt to gather the spiritual strength to overcome adversity and thereby attain enlightenment, The Climb is about as inspiring as a Lion bar. It's a listless announcement on a service station Tannoy; an advert for buttons; a fart in a clinic; a dot on a spreadsheet. Listening to it from beginning to end is like watching a bored cleaner methodically wiping a smudge from a Formica worksurface.'
Woah Cooper! I'm the Guardian plugger round here you snide...
Whadda ya want me to do, roll over and shit Mars bars? (C) The league of Gentlemen. I've had Mr. Brookers Guardian blog saved in my favourites for well over a year now, so there!
He is very very funny isn't he? I recorded the festive screenwipe last night. In fact, I'm gonna watch it now.

And remember, fuck you, I won't you don't what you tell me. Make a great new Christmas carol...
I live in Derby, so it's only a matter of time before some chavvy-types come a knocking at my door singing said carol...
