Since I've made no secret of how I consider The Hurt Locker to be a great film - and superior to Avatar - naturally I'm delighted. Hopefully the Oscars will go the same way! Also really pleased to see Firth win.
Fish Tank...my friend fell asleep at the Cannes Premiere. I was bored out of my mind and turned to catch his eye to see if he felt the same, lucky bastard was out for the count...
...Says all you need to know about that snoozefest.
I can watch just about anything in a Festival so it must have been REALLY boring.
If that's the best British film of the year...I'm glad I'm from the Republic Of Mancunia.

AND it triumphed over In the Loop and Moon! Both of which I really enjoyed, and thought were really good films in their own way.
I know you don't pay much attention to the big awards ceremonies, but where do you think this leaves the Oscar battle between The Hurt Locker and Avatar? Now one has a BAFTA, the other a Golden Globe. I still think Avatar will win (how can you ignore that much money?)...but for now it's nice to see The Hurt Locker get the acclaim I really think it deserves.
I don't know...you know my feelings on it. I thought Hurt Locker was OK. It was filmed with great energy and that really lifted it. I just didn't buy the story at all and as it was supposed to be "realistic" that killed it for me.
It was a superior G.I Joe style story though.
TBH I can see the Oscars going for Hurt Locker as well. Like I mentioned in my outburst on another thread, it seems like they've decided to make political decisions about what films "should" be.
Decisions by consensus and committee are almost always poor in my opinion. I'd rather leave it to audiences to decide.
