Yeah, man, great show, must've seen every episode a dozen times, particularly in my college days. Only surpassed by the British "The Office" and "Extras" as been my favourite sitcom. "Fawlty Towers", "Only Fools and Horses" and "The Flying Circus" (if that qualifies) get honourable mentions too.

Father Ted is fairly esoteric humour though, I don't think it would ever translate too good across the Atlantic.

Props for posting it up, R.

Col,

Welcome, fella. I'm still in addicted to internet mode here after me drought. It will fade. Must. Unplug. Soon.

The Office? Yeah. That was annoyingly good. My favourite character's clips here.

Extras I'm less fond of. Gervais does die on his arse now and again but when he's good, he's great. The scene in Ghost Town, when the pre-op nurse was asking him questions he thought 'irrelevant', nearly made me dampen my sofa.

Wot no 'Brasseye' or Saturday Night Live? Shurely shome musstayke.

God bless Ted. The Vatican are lucky they ain't still making it. They'd be having a field day of late.

Now then.

One FT clip you may not have seen. Bear in mind it's for 'charidee', mate. Not 'alf. Hmmm, where's my Bachman Turner Overdrive 45 gone?

Father Ted is brilliant. I love the wackiness. Another scene I remember fondly but can't post due to me using this phone is the "I love my brick" scene.

I've seen that clip before years ago. Never saw much of Brasseye (although I've heard great things about) and just the odd episode of SNL.

Yeah, Gervais plus lead roles in motion pictures I'm not so sure about yet. I haven't seen Ghost town but recently saw The Invention of Lying which I found rather poor. Great for the first 10 maybe 15 minutes (the Coca Cola commercial was classic), before it flat-lined, picked up again with the whole talking to god thing but the last act could have been taken from any of those insipid cookie-cutted Hollywood Rom-coms, very conformist and "by-the-numbers".

The thing with him is that he's acting ability is virtually range-less and this is coming from a big fan who loves his sitcoms, watched all the live shows, most of the podcasts and purchased a ticket to his show in April. Those Brent mannerisms, nervous tics, glances, expressions, reactions, etc have permeated anything I've seen him in since. What keeps me coming back is that he plays that particular part so well, keeps cracking me up. He needs to diversify however if he wants to endure any kind of longevity in the acting business. Still a great comic writer though.

But back to Father Ted, top show...silly, hammed up but always great.

CK,

Gervais.
I'm sure TP and RG think the sun shines outta his arse biscuits. But it doesn't.
It shines outta Kate Bush's sweet cheeks. Everyone knows that. Well, it did before she foisted 'Aerial' on us. Daft bint.

Ghost Town ain't bad. Good few laughs. But it ain't very good either. I've avoided TIOL as I heard from reliable sources it was a big bad jobby in the bath. He's in plenty of big movies. Sadly I've yet to see him in a good one.

I've seen Gervais dying on stage. It wasn't pretty. Bloody expensive too.
He also made a right tit of himself at Live 8. Before a global audience. The muppet.

That said, he's hugely talented, very succesful and deservedly so. But the sun don't shine outta his rear. Despite what he thinks and some folks say.

FT. Ted. Bless. One word - a word I use sparingly: Genius.

Good to talk with you, Col. I'll be chatting ya again soon. Keep it cooking.

R

How dare you, Jennifer.

The writers and stars of FT were from Ireland, as Irish as Gwuinness and Shamrockers and Boxty.

Yer black and tans at C4 were just the makers. And fine fellas they were too. RTE woulda slaughtered it, if they'd have had the balls to make it in the first place. Which they didn't. And don't.

Doubt me? See here for recent RTE policy. The Beeb would Never do that. Never I say!

You would think political caricature and a news programme having a news story, on the the incumbent Taoiseach was somehow a bad thing. Apologise? My narrow arse! Fecking cowards. Evidently some big noise made a phone call and RTE's arse fell out. So much for balanced news.

I know about the YT restrictions, J. Difficult for me to test from here. Well, I could. But I won't. Take a fecking hour for each clip. I've fags to smoke and beer to drink. Oh, and whiskey, too. Luverly whiskey.

You would think YouTube might do a bit of work and post some disclaimers. Alas! YT too busy filling their boots. Capitalist breadheads.

Best way round this annoying problem is to search for the relevant title. I will do some editing on this thread very soon to give you a fighting bleeding chance of actually finding the thing.

Apologies for the slackness of YouTube and these archaic copyright ballcocks.

As an aside, I note the last few months has seen a deluge of pooh foisted on YT in the guise of good video.

A note to anyone with YouTube connections: Kiddies filming tvs with shakycams does not cut it.

Doing yet another dance remix that would have been shunned by drugged up bleepheads at raves in the early 90s is nothing but unadultered shite and an utter waste of time.

Videos have moving pictures, not just one still picture. Or several stills. That is called 'cack'. Save it for Facebook or Bebo.

Title sequences for twenty second clips are completely superfluous.

Foisting your insecurities in the form of YT video on an unsuspecting audience mailnly looking for a laugh is just plain sad. Stop it! You heard.

YT! Thy boots will be empty soon enough, if you don't sort it out sharpish.

R

There were Nazis in Father Ted too.

"NOT A RACIST"

"Father Jack spends practically the entire episode in small spaces, including inside a grandfather clock, which leads Ted to assume Jack is agoraphobic; which Dougal thinks is a fear of fighting."

Er. Wiki sure can kill a good joke.

I'm loathed to link to Youtube vids at the mo. Folks in foreign territories are better searching on there for themselves.

More on Irish Nazis here...
