Lots to be discussed here. Perhaps moderators can open separate threads? Patrick Stewart, the entire cast of TNG, Stan Lee, creator of Spider Man among loads others   and the likes of James Marsters and Amanda Tapping are just some of the celebrities I had my eye on...

And was lucky enough to have brief reciprocation and enter upon their personal physical/psychological space for "once upon a time".

I have a story to tell upon meeting a few and especially the "one" I didn't meet, but SO ENJOYED his panel: that of Stan Lee. I can't say enough here and if time were to afford, I'd tweet on to infinity. WHAT A WONDERFUL MAN!!!!

... but besides the wonderful personality of these amazing celebrities, I'd love to comment upon the crowd I met during the last days of April 2012:

You know what? If I were to be told I was dying, I think I'd say:

"Get me together with all of the people who were at the Calgary comic-con 2012. Let's do it again!"

Why?

Because all of the people I met and brushed against in the sardine crowds were absolutely amazing people that truly felt like family! How can one say that with perhaps fifty thousand people?!!!

I don't know.

I would like to show the whole Stan Lee interview/panel, but here's part:

02.06.2012   Stan Lee is Coming to the Calgary Expo!

Stan Lee

Emerging from the brokenness of the Great Depression and persisting through the adversity of WWII, Stan Lee, born Stanley Martin Lieber, has become an icon in the comic-book industry and a model of strength, determination and resilience.

As a child, Stan had an insatiable appetite for reading and writing, interests that led him to his first job as an obituary writer for the local news service and composing press releases for the National Tuberculosis Centre.  He launched his arts and entertainment career in 1939 with Timely Comics.  His duties were menial to begin with - refilling ink wells, erasing pencils from finished pages and delivering lunches to the artists.  Unbeknownst to Stan, Timely Comics would eventually develop into one of the world’s leading comic book production companies – Marvel Comics, instigating Lee’s career as the most notorious comic book creator since the industry’s inception.

Stan, along with Jack Kirby, would go on to create such outstanding characters as Thor, Iron Man, X-Men and The Fantastic Four.  In August of 1962 Lee co-created Spiderman with Steve Ditko, launching one of the most well-known, well-loved and well-received comic book heroes of all time.

A notable difference in Stan's characters was the human element of imperfection – something that had previously been absent from most super-hero archetypes.  His heroes were not only visions of strength and stamina, they also struggled with angst, sadness, fear, loneliness and yes, heartache.  These character flaws propelled the Marvel Revolution as fans, maintaining their admiration for their superhero archetypes, also began to relate to them on a more personal level.  This cultivated a sense of community between the creators, the characters and the fans, forever changing the way that comic books would be written.

For over 60 years the entertainment industry has felt the presence of Stan Lee’s profound devotion to art and literature.  In 2010 the Stan Lee Foundation was formed, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting literacy, cultural awareness and artistic diversity throughout the States.  His influence has encouraged thousands of aspiring writers and artists to pursue their ambitions and enhance their talents.

I went with some friends to the Vancouver Fan Expo - pretty fun and inspiring as a creative person; seeing all of these artists (whether it was graphical artists, actors, directors, writers, etc) in one place was fantastic.

I'm not sure if there were any talks or conferences, I just went along to the main event in the convention center and walked around.

Pretty cool indeed.

A person really needs to develop "tactics" to get full value from the time. Next time, it will most definitely be with a VIP pass. The time waiting in lines is not worth it if one is working with picture sessions and autograph sessions.

You need to make decisions which workshops and panels you want to schedule in. You need to have your hotel be close by. There's just so much at these things it's amazing, but you need to be prepared to truly get the full value. So many talented artists, so many knowledgeable fans-- all under one roof.

It's a pity there doesn't seem to be much coverage from news sources. Mostly, I've seen bad news on the organizers. They did do some major screw ups, but I'd love to see more coverage from an event such as this.

I read an article once that Stan Lee was fed up with the business and ready to give it up, when his wife suggested he go ahead and try that idea he had before going -- which was Spiderman.

This is a testament to endurance and not giving up, and, to having some people by your side to keep you going.

I'm happy to have now found some of the show loaded to youtube thanks to oilcountryDon! Big thanks!!!
