Gore Vidal, the guy who wrote "Caligula", has died aged 86. He was a famous, award-winning and well-respected novelist, playwright, essayist and screenwriter. On the other hand, he is the guy who wrote "Caligula".

Rest in peace.

I can't live the buttoned-down life like you. I want it all. The dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles. Sure, I may offend some of the blue bloods with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "city fathers," who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards and talk about what's to be done with this Homer Simpson?

Guy responsible for my early childhood, albeit haunting, memory of a man and woman being fisted.  Thanks for the memories, Gore Vidal.

He also wrote Myra Breckinridge which is a classic and is responsible for filling my childhood head with such fantasy (the movie is interestingly cast but terrible).

He wrote my favorite Bette Davis role! The Catered Affair, which starred Bette as a devout mother who sacrifices her family's dreams so her daughter, played by Debbie Reynolds, could have the perfect wedding. Also starred Ernest Borgnine as the taxi-driving father. Bette is perfection and Debbie is always a pleasure to watch. Debbie won a National Board of Review for Best Actress. It received no other nominations or awards.

He also wrote Suddenly, Last Summer, based on Williams' play. Starring Katherine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift, it was nominated for 3 Oscars. Hepburn and Taylor were both nominated for Best Actress. It was Hepburn's 8th nomination and Taylor's 3rd. (Simone Signore won, for Room at the Top. I've never heard of it, or her.)

Won't miss the pompous, overbearing, inconsistent, secretly self loathing, tremendously talented but treasonous old fool. A little humility and introspection might have tempered his half century tantrum.

Remove the "tremendously talented" and that become deliciously ironic.

Just sayin'.

So you think I'm treasonous Andrew? lol

Unless you want to clarify your comment, Andrew, that is about as big a personal attack as I've ever seen on a member of this forum. If history is any indication, if an argument were to break out now, you would later somehow suggest it was me that began to make it personal.

I'm going to disappoint you and not take the bait. You've wasted enough of my time in the last year.

Regarding Vidal, it's not often I say that kind of thing about someone who passed. But that guy has little redeeming quality and the world is a better place without him.

De mortuis nihil nisi bonum, my friend.

There are exceptions to everything. Hitler, Stalin, Mao. Vidal is not in their category, but nonetheless...
And your use of Latin is pretentious.

Really?  That is like staggering into IHOP and exclaiming, "That must be the largest pancake ever!!"

Trust me -- any attack that involves the word "irony" and requires a thesaurus hardly qualifies as the most egregious transgression to be found on these boards.

Haha...nobody else "fights" quite like you two, though -- I'll grant you that.

Hey, it's my tiny, little IMDb!
