Edit: This thread now encompasses everything 24 related. The film and television show. Scroll down for more on Season Seven.

A Canadian Newspaper reports that a movie based on popular Fox series 24, starring Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, is in the works.

Canadian director/producer Jon Cassar said, "The last I heard, the first hour will not be in real-time, but then something big will happen and real time will kick in. It still has to be worked out -- it's at a stage where they need to write it."

No one will not predict a storyline for the big screen version of the show. He says the script will likely depend on what's happening on the series prior to the movie coming out.

"It could still be two years from now, so it's far too early to say," he says, adding even if he did know, he wouldn't give it away.

Any thoughts?

I heard of a game, it's on the way and looks good (The Jack character anyway) I find a film to be a waste of time because they are doing so well on T.V. eventhough it's on during another show I watch so I missed this season but that's beyond the point.

I see why they would want a film though, you can make a lot of money and the way they do 24 is already really good so as long as they keep the same people and don't bring in big Hollywood directors, writers and so on it'll be a very good film.

Nick Of Time 2: The Chronicles of Bauer!

Just got finished watching the 4th Season and I'm wondering where they're going to take the series now...

Apart from upping the nudity, swearing and gore quota (which you don't need to tell a good story) I cna't really see the need for a big-screen 24 outing. The production values on the show are already (the odd dodgy cgi moment aside) top drawer. Still, if they keep the quality up then I'll be there on opening day!

Will the movie be twenty-four hours long, without all those pesky commercial breaks?  That, I'd pay to experience!

Ah, I see ... three 40 minute real-time parts.  That's two hours right there.  If they do it that way, then I hope that the movie is at least two and a half hours long so that cool stuff can happen between those real-time parts.

However, I'd still prefer if the entire movie is an entire day-long film.  All it has to do is be the same quality as the TV series, minus the pesky commercial breaks.  Yeah, filling in that extra time would mean that the movie would take longer to film than one of thier television seasons takes to film, but it'd be worth it to have a suspense-filled day at the cinema.  It could begin at 7am, and end at 7am.  And therefore 7am would be the only time of day when the screenings begin.  It'd be a wonderful test of endurance for audiences nation-wide.  If it opens during spring-break, or summer, or winter holidays, it'd surely appeal to college students!  It could be billed as a generation-defining experience, and it could become a cult hit.

More info:

In an interview airing tonight on BBC One's Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Kiefer Sutherland reveals that the long-discussed feature-film version of Fox's 24 will be set across the pond. "We'll shoot the film here," the actor says on the London-based talk show. "We're really excited about it." Sutherland divulges no further details as to a start date or storyline. -tvguide.com

Update:

"According to Variety, Twentieth Century Fox has closed a deal with series creators Robert Cochran and Joel Surnow, as well as showrunner Howard Gordon, to bring the Kiefer Sutherland real-time thriller to the big screen.

Executives at 20th should have a draft of the script in their hands by early winter. Once they see the script -- and look at ratings for the first few episodes of season six, which kicks off in January -- they'll be able to make a decision on greenlighting production of the film.

Under the most optimistic scenario, the feature would be greenlit early next year and film next spring and summer during the hiatus between season six and a likely seventh season of 24."-Variety

Details On Next Year's "24" can be found over at iF Magazine. That includes info on what Jack would have been doing in Africa if the series went that direction.

He has been wandering the world basically trying to find a place to belong and looking for penance and realizes he’s not going to find it anywhere, so he gets caught up in a coup and has a BLACK HAWK DOWN kind of moment.

I'm guessing Jack will be convicted (how could he not be) but he'll escape somehow and become a fugitive.  I like the courtroom idea but, you're right - the whole season can't take place in there.

This storyline has possibilities: sleezy lawyers, corrupt judges and politicians out for blood.  I hope they bring Powers Booth back.  He's fast becoming one of my favorite character actors (I remember him from Tombstone).  As well, I like the guy who played former president Logan but he was flatlinning the last we saw of him so it's not looking too good on that count, I'd have to say.

Poor Jack.  You may not always agree with his methods, but the man gets results.

I just read in the paper this morning that Day 7 will take place in Washington D.C and Jack is on trial for all of his "crimes".

Where did you read about this? I don't think that he'll technically be on trial.

At this years Comic-Con, Jon Cassar and the executive producers stated that "at the beginning of the season Jack will be appearing before a Senate Committee to answer questions about his actions in the past, some of which they think may have been criminal."

Oh yeah, they also mentioned that Carlos Bernard might be returning as Tony Alemeida next season. During the panel, the producers hinted that they originally toyed with the idea of having him come back in the season six finale but scrapped the idea at the last minute.

It was in the paper, just a small paragraph on the top corner, all it said was it takes place in D.C and Jack is facing criminal actions for the stuff he has done in the past, I guess Van Halen reuniting was more important since they got the rest of the page

I think it will be awesome to bring Tony back, he was my second fav character next to Jack, maybe it will be on the day 6 DVD, they seem to always add stuff to it, I read how the original ending was gonna be and it sounded awesome.

I would like to see Powers Boothe and Peter MacNicol return, they were both amazing, both are great actors, same with Ricky Schroder as Doyle, maybe he could get some eye surgury or something, he was almost as ruthless as Jack, not quite, but almost.

TEN WAYS TO IMPROVE 24:

http://www.empireonline.com/empireblog/Post.asp?id=4

I read this yesterday. I definitely agree about moving out of LA, so that's a good thing. I think they need to wary about what's turning into a cliché on the show, like the torture. It would be cool if they turned it all completely on its head, so it's not the same structure as we're always used to.

Well, since they forgot to mention cancelling this piece of crap show once and for all, I'd say the best one is the whole Chuck Norris thing. Bauer and Texas Ranger together? Now that's entertainment.

Looks like we will have to wait until next January to see Jack back in action (killing people).

...if [Fox] started airing new episodes soon, the season finale would not have taken place until the summer, when TV networks rarely show their high-profile programs.

That's a temp cut of the trailer,  the voice over and music are preliminary.

13 feature scripts, 2 short subjects. One sale, 4 options. Nothing filmed. Damn.

Currently rewriting another writer's SciFi script for an indie producer in L.A.

I'm going to re-open this thread, simply because I want to hear your thoughts on the latest '24' film now that the T.V is finished.

IMDB reports that a 24 feature film is in the works, and due to hit production in 2011... I'm curious to hear what you think they could possibly work on in this new film.

At the end of season 8, Jack is allowed to go free and disappears into thin air. He has lost everyone who could possibly help him (that we know), such as Tony (terrorist loving bastard!), Audrey and Renee. Would Chloe fit into a film adaptation? I always believed that the T.V wasn't 24 without Chloe, and so far they've kept her in it. But she now has a kid, and has a life to live (and as of Season 8, runs CTU New york).

Where could they go with this?

I absolutely love 24! Jack Bauer is the man!

Loved the series finale, it actually left me with a lump in my throat. So much better and more satisfying than the Lost finale in every way. I could still remember an interview with the girl who plays Chloe midseason when she was asked if Chloe kills Jack in the end and she looked nervous and said something like "What? No! That would be the worst ending ever!". When she pulled the gun on him and Jack was screaming for him to shoot her, that's all that was going through my head.

So many great moments throughout the history of the show. Amazing twists. Great characters. Apart from a so-so Season 6, it was probably the best TV show I've ever seen.

As for a movie, it couldn't be done without Chloe, surely. Maybe she will be in some sort of danger and that will bring Jack back into the game. Really looking forward to it in any case.
