Electro? Sandman? Chameleon? Who will the next viilian be?

Spider-Man 3 star Thomas Haden Church has dropped a few hints about which villain he is playing.

THC: "He's a horse of many colors."

THC: "Let's just say he's an amorphous collection of protons, electrons, and neutrons, of different colors."

Any thoughts?

Personally I would have loved to see Venom on the big screen but that’s looking less and less likely.

It's supposed to be Venom though, they planted the seed and now if they go back the fans will lash out.

I enjoy all of Spiderman's villains from the cartoon series but for Rhino, that character was stupid. I'd like to see MCD as Kingpen in Spiderman, I think he's the glue that gave the bad guys reason.

The way they do Spiderman now is that they just happen to come to town or something happens and they go after Spiderman, Daredevil had one evil boss who called in the bad guy in which was the way to go.

Venom if they can do him right would be the perfect enemy, Mysterio as well.

I read that Topher Grace (Whatever his name is, the guy who plays eric in  "That 70's Show")  Signed on to play a character in Spiderman 3...Hobb Goblin??  Because doesn't Harry become the 2nd Green Goblin?  And where is my Carnage!!!! The other suit from space thingy.  I also read that Topher was gonna play Peter on number one, but was too small and not buff enough.

If I remember correctly Carnage as a human in the cell was a skinny guy which fits Topher perfectly if I'm thinking right. But they also set up Lizard to possibly happen so Topher may be a cameo and eventually become a villain down the road.

They shouldn't take so much time between films, once they have to change Spiderman/Peter we'll be getting into the Batman and other frachise problems.

Update. Thomas Haden Church was on Leno last night and of course Leno brought up Spider-Man 3. Church jumped around the question but did drop a few hints about his training regimen and that he is buffing up and gaining weight. Venom? I hope so. Church as Venom and Topher as Carnage, this film has massive potential. I hope they don't waste Church on a lame villain like Chameleon.

Wow, I must be in the minority of those who didn't like 1 or 2. I've never liked Tobey Maguire and especially that Kirsten Dunst. She really grates on me. Nevermind!

Hope you all like Spidey 3. I was more a fan of the cartoon myself.

I really don't like Kirsten Dunst but not to the point of bringing down my liking of the films. I just cringe when she's on screen. But the special effects and action (and Tobey's big blue eyes) well make up for it.

I think they're bringing these sequels out too early. Okay, it takes around two years to complete these films, but that still is too early to me. Its as though straight after one film opens they're at work on the next, just forcing them out without fully digesting what they could have done better in the one before.

And aren't Sam Raimi and the writers totally nackered by the time they've finished a film of this size? They're bound to be. If so, doesn't that mean some of their creativity could be fatigued too? I just think if these guys had more time to develop ideas these films could be even better, because they're bound to overlook some brilliant ideas if they're working on such a stringent schedule.

My point is, why don't the filmmakers just wait for a few years and then start thinking about sequels? I think audiences would grow much more hungry for sequels as time went on. You know the saying "Absence makes the heart grow fonder". I'm sure this would apply to these types of films too. This would also give the filmmakers a break and would allow them to develop some groundbreaking ideas without the pressure.

I hope they do this with the Batman sequels; let fans wonder what's happened to the characters and what's going to happen next. It seems as though (based on what I've read) the filmmkers have had the sense to come up with an overall story which would comprise the Batman sequels, instead of just churning out random stories with new villians in them.

I'm with Andy, the Spider-Man films weren't all they were cracked up to be. I was excited for both 1 and 2 when they came out, but now I think they could have been better, particularly the action sequences. But ah well, let's just wait and see what they've managed to come up with for Spider-Man 3. I think we'll all be surprised.

I like fast sequels. It's killing me waiting for Underworld: Evolution. And three years is more than enough to wait for Revenge of the Sith.

DIFFERNT WAYS

While going by the Comic:

SpiderMan1 and Comics 1-7: Introduction to Spiderman. MAIN VILLIAN The Green Goblin

Comics 8-13: SpiderMan fights Shocker, Kingpin, the Enforcers, and Electro.

SpiderMan2 and Comics 14-21: He fights Dr. Oct and a Cameo from the Sandman.

NOW THE GUESSING GAME:

Sandman was mentioned in the comics that corrispond with Spiderman2 but was never mentioned in the movie. Could he be the villian? If so i believe he would be a small villian. (One of reason's i believe he is a villian because there are two villians)

COMICS 22-26

These comics has the Green Goblin return. That i don't know because he died i believe.

COMICS 28-32

This is what i believe the next movie will be. (yet i still hope for venom and carnage) Spiderman fights Rhino and deals with a criminal who is taking his identity. Two bad guys in the comic, two bad guys in the film.

COMICS 35-38

Venom@#*#

COMICS 40-59

This is all that X-Men and Daredevil shit. I don't think we will be seeing any of this.

COMICS 60- ???

Carnage@&*$#

I think the part about the Chameleon impersonating Spider-Man would be cool to see in a movie. But that's as far as my enthusiasm goes for the Chameleon being used in the next Spidey movie, unless they really update him and give him some other interesting powers.

These sites are always like this until about the end of principal photography at the earliest. Look at the Ghost Rider site, I don't think it has all that much on it and they completed shooting quite a while ago. Mind you, that film has been pushed back to 2007 and they're doing re-shoots. Maybe that has something to do with it. Just goes to show that these "official" sites aren't what they're crackd up to be. Most of the fan sites are better!

I wonder what's going to happen with the suit, will it form over his body or will it just turn him evil and he changed his uniform to be evil.

This doesn't say yay or nay on the Venom character though, it could just be an evil Peter Parker/Spiderman story without an actual Venom.

I think the suit will end up be infected by the symbiote, thus turning him evil, and probably taking up a good portion of the movie as Spidey fights Sandman.

Topher Grace's role in this one will probably be more or less developing the Eddie Brock character for a quick switch at th end to set up Venom as the villian in Spiderman 4.

I could be wrong, but I don't see them going the way of some of the Batman movies and using too many villains at once.

Venom is definetly in Spider Man 3.  He is slated to be mostly, if not all, computer generated.  Sandman, Green Goblin, and Venom, that's the villain lineup for this one.

This movie will pull out all of the stops.

They have multiple stages at Sony and Paramount in Hollywood, as well as exterior locations at Disney Ranch, north of Los Angeles, and the production has pretty muched owned downtown Los Angeles for months.

On the biggest stage Sony has to offer, iron workers were cutting and welding enormous steel i-beams 24 hours a day, in order to construct a working skyscraper under the massive, 80 ft ceilings of stage 27.

It is rumored that the structure will be demolished in shot!  This could end up being the coolest of the trilogy.

They set-up Lizard as well but haven't used him. I wish they would bring the films out quicker because I'm getting too old to geek out over films such as this.

How can you justify the enjoyment of a superhero film when you get into your late twenties? They made 3 great films at one time and they won't even give us Venom until like 2009-2010 because they have more important things to do like spend all the cash they make from the films.

So will Spiderman not be dawning the black suit for very long in this one?  I always thought the Venom character was kinda cool, cause you never really knew where he was coming from, and I think it will play out nicely.

Spiderman, and some of the newer franchises haven't been all that bad in terms of time in between, but I'm comparing it to Superman, which had lived in the rumor mill for so long prior to it finally being made, with all the various scripts and people who were supposed to play him and what not.

I really wish they'd do a Gambit movie, or perhaps a lesser known, yet cool superhero like Dr. Strange or Captain Marvel.

What would really be badass, in my opinion, is a Superman movie with Bizarro in it.

I'm in my late twenties too, and I geek out over most movies.  I feed myself by working on them, and pretty much all my friends do too.

So in essence, geeking out about movies is my life's passion.  I have a feeling it's yours also Wesley, othherwise why would you be here?

So go ahead, geek out a bit, it's okay.

I'll have to go back through all the articles that I've book-marked, but there is an article with Sam Raimi in which he states that Spider-Man goes through some "dark times" and that Peter Parker switches to the black suit to represent his current state of mind. So no word on the symbiote, yet.

Sam Raimi hasn't made a film that wasn't Spiderman since 2000 when he did The Gift, is it too much to ask for him to film two at a time? Once the stars leave the series this will go into Batman limbo and then we'll have to sit through Spiderman Begins again because rich men make poor decisions in the way they make films.

I read somewhere that Sam Raimi didn't like Venom (Maybe the fans changed his mind) His brother Ted would be perfect for Carnage, might be a lot of extra bad guys but just show him near the end in prison to set-up the whole Venom/Carnage storyline.

If I remember correctly Venom turns good near the end and helps Spiderman against Carnage. (That's what I remember from the 90's version of Spiderman anyway, could be wrong but it makes for great drama and action)

I remember it being that way myself.

I'm just surprised to see that there's no mention of the symbiote though.  I would think it would have to be in there since that's pretty much the entire basis for the origin of Venom.

Here is what concerns me about the IMDB page.

Topher Grace      ....      Eddie Brock (attached)
Dylan Baker      ....      Curt Connors Ph.D./The Lizard
Rosemary Harris      ....      May Parker/Carnage (attached)

A female Carnage? They might have Lizard this time (Awesome!) and it says Attached which might mean he could be in two scenes and leave until SP4.

That would be the coolest thing ever put on screen. I could see it now. To save her dear Peter, she melds with the Carnage symbiote and saves the day. Too bad IMDB never gets the casting list right.

That's nuts, when I read that I was like is this the low budget version of Spiderman? Sam Raimi, when Directors go crazy.

They don't have a character named Cletus Kasady which is Carnage.

Cletus was sent to prison to serve life sentences for murder...His cellmate turned out to be none other than Eddie Brock, who is Eddie Brock?...Just a little Spidey foe by the name of Venom!...While helping Brock get out of prison, Venom's symbiote body spawned off a part of itself & bonded with Kasady creating a killing machine!

Anyway if the Symbiote does go into Aunt May that will be weird, who knows if it will work. Maybe they will use Aunt May as the spawned part.

Also I read a Ted Raimi interview in which he all but confirms Venom in the film.

Quoted Text
So we took a shot in the dark and tried to get some details about Spiderman. We asked if Hoffman will have anytime with Venom, “A little…no…I don't get anytime with Venom, have you seen the two other movies? What's the matter with you...Shame on you, shame on him, shame,” jokingly said Ted. Hey it was worth a shot.

Avi Arad (former marvel studios ceo) talked to IFMagazine.com recently and revealed that there will be four villains in Spider-Man 3.

iF: There are four villains this time, Venom, Sandman, and Green Goblin and when is the fourth going to be revealed?

ARAD: Right we have four villains. Pretty soon [we'll reveal the fourth villain] I believe. Maybe around Comic Con we'll reveal something and the madness will begin.

Are they really so strapped for a story and 120 minutes of screen time they they need to have four "villains"? I use the term in the way one might use the term with Disney's bad guys, who also just call themselves villains. I mean, a film should be essentially one on one: Protag vs. Antag. If they actually write a story, there will be one primary villain with the other three being either serving that first villain or being very secondary to the main plot -- rather like a nuisance that keeps popping up and distracting us from the main story, which is what we actually want to see.

I think having this many "bad guys" will do nothing but hurt the story because they will cut character development to ensure the film stays short enough for the short attention span audiences.

Sad, really. Just sad.

Man-oh-man, this looks awwwwsome!!! It still feels like yesterday when I saw Spider-Man 2, and now the third one is on its way! Although this one has a pretty predictable plot (I'd say), I think this will probably be the best of the three films. From the looks of things, it seems like Raimi has finally touched on the darker side of the comics that I really loved. Hope they haven't went overboard with the villains though. FOUR?!

Interesting new info regarding Spidey 3

A few months back came some script spoilers from the upcoming third "Spider-Man" film, spoilers which lasted for all of half a day online before Sony forced the article's removal. Now similar spoilers have gone online over at filmick and highlight the context of many of the shots in the trailer (SPOILERS AHEAD). No word how long they'll stay online but they do sound cool and very ambitious.-darkhorizons.com

I doubt anyone from Sony is hanging around the rumor board, so I decided to post this here.

-Zavier

Spoilers

Amongst the revelations:

- Before getting on Peter, the symbiote (the black oil substance) has a rather 50's sci-fi origin (ala The Blob)

- In a church bell tower, Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) follows this black Spidey character and sees Peter ripping himself free of the suit - some of which falls onto Brock, causing him to "become" Venom.

- For most of the film, Spider-Man is in pursuit of The Sandman. Harry as the Goblin (sans mask) fights Peter early on and returns at the end to aid him in the final confrontation with Sandman and Venom at a construction site.

- "Dark Spidey, as it were - Peter before he has overcome Venom - is the one who courts Gwen Stacey. Problems in the relationship with MJ, as well as professional issues compound to bring him down. Even downer than last time. That's how Raimi, Sargent and co are using Venom - as a dramatic device to show Peter not just giving up on his great responsibility, but getting drunk on his great power."

- There are scenes inside Curt Connor's lab, where he studies the symbiote, and these scenes are also used to set up the research that will, in the character's story - though not in this movie - turn him into The Lizard.

- The Black Cat does not make any significant appearance in the film, despite existing, on paper, in various earlier conceptions.

- And the fourth villain? "Makes only a fleeting appearance - Bruce Campbell's character this time around is Quentin Beck, known to fans of the comic as Mysterio".

It does looks pretty good, like a Spidey fans wet dream. Next May seems like overkill for a film that seems complete.

Yeah, it wasn't THAT long ago that the cameras started rolling, and yet look at all the scenes they've already covered. I was surprised at how much Raimi has shot. I wasn't really looking forward to this film, I was kind of disappointed with the second one, but I really think this one will be the best of the three.

I was kind of disappointed with both of the first two films...I liked them about the same. But I am really looking forward to this.

It'll be my first Spiderman film seen in theaters. Woot.

Next time somebody says woot I will delete the post. It just annoys me so much for no reason.

Anyway that out of the way I have made my feelings clear on the first two films and how I think if you watch them side by side you're watching the same recycled movie two times marketed with a new bad guy but still the same movie twice.

I do love Spiderman enough to give the third a chance and to enjoy both the first ones to a certain extent. Mindless entertainment, gotta love it.

Eh. Looks okayish. Nothing special or mind-blowing though. I hated both Spider-Man movies, though I think I've said that many times on various boards on this and other sites. But I truly hate them, I don't understand how so many people could be raked into something as phony and shallow as Spider-Man.

I wasn't a fan of the first spider-man, I thought the Peter Parker story worked well, but not the spider-man story, but the second, heck, it was it amazing IMO, and this looks really cool, it seems to be a lot darker, I have high hopes, but my gut tells me I won't be disappointed.

Has anyone heard the rumor that it was budgeted at three hundred and twenty-five million? That's just crazy. The film industry is so expensive these days, barely anything is making a freaking profit.

Meh. The trailer was sort of a disappointment, in fact the teaser was far superior. My opinion slightly improved when I watched the High-Def version. The lack of Venom was also bothering me.

Maybe Sam Raimi is just fucking with our minds...

They always seem to come out on my birthday, which is strange.  Actually, I think the first one was supposed to come out on my birthday, but got moved after they had to edit it for the twin towers scene after 9/11.

I think it looks really good though.

You finally will be able to see Venom according to Sony:

New Spider-Man 3 clips (including a glimpse at Venom) aired during the showing of Spider-Man 2 on Fox Thursday night.

And, once again, for those without American Television can view it here:

The movie looks great but Venom looked cartoony. Since the video was small, I couldn't make out Harry's costume but it didn't look like Green Goblins.

I think there's some kind of other goblin he turns into in the comics, so he's not Green Goblin. I'm not sure I've never picked up a Spider-Man comic in my life, in fact I don't think I've ever picked up any comic in my life so don't take my word for it.

No wait, I got Frank Miller's The Hard Goodbye with my Sin City: Recut, Extended, Unrated DVD.

Anywho, was there even a Venom clip in there? Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention but I don't remember seeing him in there. Oh well.

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/6472/realvenomty1.png - That's venom.

The other Goblin was Hobgoblin and he was not Harry Osbourne. They don't even have a double credit as the Goblin but he is the goblin but he looked black in the commercial.

Well i mostly wanna see the graphics and fight scenes. You might not like the spiderman movies, but how can you hate the fight scenes? There always good.

One of the few good things about big budget movies is that you know they'll fork out the money to make a decent fight scene or two.

Let me see, the fight seen was good In SPidy 1, everything was perfect there, then..

Comes to SP2, Fight seens was Better, then let see Sam Raimi took off Spidy's mask in front of A bunch of peoples, and what I am going to say for this..mm It SuckS!

And for now, this time.. Sp3 may kill peter Parker or may gets his Leg cutt off, during the major Fight with Sp Vs. Venone Vs. Junior Green Gobline ; thus bringing up SpiderGirl the comicbook storyline to this one Or What!

I lost hope on Sam Raimi, or the stupid Coloumbia Pictures.

Eurgh how can you say that. The ones in SM2 were pretty good, granted. Especially the train sequence. But the fights in the first one were terrible. Especially the climactic fight with Green Goblin the church kinda place. Reminded me of the ending of the first Batman movie, in a bad way. And those shots of Tobey Maguire being punched in the face and falling through the air in slow motion were so corny. It's a cringe worthy thing. And what about those balls that turned into those flying razor things? Spider-Man's poses as he sort of Matrix-leaps around them were also horrible.

However, moving onto a more positive thing. That Venom clip could be worth a ganders. I'd be interested in seeing it for sure. I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan, hell I'm not any kind of Spider-Man fan, but Venom is pretty cool. I've always kinda liked him.

Awesome. Thanks for posting, Andrew, it's much appreciated. May I ask where you got this clip from?

Also some pretty impressive pics up there. Love the dancing Spidey. If he does that in Spider-Man 3 I may just have to give it a thumbs up purely for that. Thanks for posting again.

Pretty cool. Love the art work of the third picture. Looks like Topher Grace but on some muscle for the role. I spose he would have to. Should be a decent villain.
