I don't think there's any feasible way of doing a sequel to Dawn Of The Dead if it doesn't involve the surviving characters of the first or a shopping mall as the connection to the first film is lost.
Personally, I don't care as I am much more concerned about a remake of Day Of The Dead. It is impossible to do a remake of that film that even comes remotely close to the original. I mean, it's the best zombie movie ever (many say Dawn but I sincerely consider it to be Day). Joe Pilato is Rhodes, Richard Liberty is Logan, Howard Sherman is Bub... no one can top those performances and without those characters, it's not Day. I mean, those characters are a major part of what made Day so good.
The Day Of The Dead remake is what everyone needs to be concerned about. Dawn 2 is just silly. The Day remake is a travesty. |

I always imagined they'd do day of the dead remake and have it start of with it's main characters in the military helicopter that flew over the mall (probably fleeing that overrun military installation) That shot looked like stock footage though.
Personally I don't care if they make another one. If it looks bad I won't see it and it won't effect my life at all. If it looks good I will see. Regardless of being a remake nobody should complain if it's good. Sometimes remakes are needed, although they do not live up to the original (i found dawn to be fresh and new despite it's obvious flaws. Ending *cough*) These remakes are needed to keep the original alive. Not to many teenagers new there was an original dawn of the dead. MANY did after they remade it and came out with a special edition dvd.
I'm young so the movies I see in theaters or that are relatively new haven't been remade. So I don't know the feeling of watching something that was once new to me butchered by hollywood.
I do love originals though more than their remakes. Cape Fear, Night of the Living Dead, Psycho (of course)
What people should respect about Dawn of the Dead is that it did what most people avoid in remaking. It changed it up. It didn't take what everyone loved about the original dawn of the dead and put it in a modern era. That is because most remakes are remakes of films that spawned many copies and the remake just becomes one of these rip offs.
I particularly am not found of some of the talents hired to this project. They seem like sell out hollywood guys in it for shock value. Final Destination-cool concept except executed like every teen slasher that preceeded it for the past 5 years. |

I think Day of the Dead was the same thing we saw in Night and Dawn. It was a very ambitious movie, but poorly executed and the acting was horrific. It was similar to watching the settled in vibe that was created after a while in dawn (original) with the inablility to cooperate (Night of the Living Dead) just put it in a labratory. I'm assuming the theme was the soldiers not accepting the possibility of coexisting with the zombies (with the scientists help) But how could you? If you watched something eat most of your race would you really want to coexist with it? If I'm wrong please tell me the message James. Maybe I just misinterpreted it. |

I'd say the theme was more about scientists vs. military but what you've mentioned definitely played a part in the film. I'd definitely have to disagree about the acting though. Sure, it's over-the-top but it should be since the characters are so eccentric. And Rhodes really makes you hate him and Bub almost wins your sympathy. I thought the acting was a big part of the film. |

I hate sequels to movies like these!!!! It makes me mad. Hollywood writers and directors have really lost it. Why can't they get it through their thick skulls that we don't want junk like this!?

Update:
While in Chicago promotion his film Slither, which Universal Pictures will release on March 31st, James Gunn told us all a little scoop about what his plans were for his next feature film. All he could tease was "it's a film about Satan." But he also expressed that he had no interest in doing the sequel to Dawn of the Dead, while producer Eric Newman chimed in telling the audience that "as of right now there are no immediate plans for a sequel." He explained that just because Titanic could easily make a ton of money, just because you can doesn't mean you should- and that the story just wouldn't be any good, "a sequel to a remake of a sequel?" -Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors

In a recent interview posted on Ain't It Cool News, James Gunn directly states that he will have no part whatsoever with the "Dawn" sequel. The interview is very long (and it's only the second part of an all ready in progress interview), so here's the direct quote: KRAKEN: I really really like “Dawn of the Dead” JAMES GUNN: Yeah, I do too. KRAKEN: Are they still trying to make a sequel? JAMES GUNN: Yeah, they’re trying but I am definitely not doing it, I’m not going to do it. KRAKEN: Well, it’s stilly to call it “Dawn of the Dead 2” anyway. JAMES GUNN: Exactly, it’s the sequel to the remake of a sequel. And here's the direct link to the entire interview for Gunn fans like myself ( when are we going to get a new novel, damn it!): http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=22978 |

I read on IMDB that Zack Snyder wasn't going to take any part of directing the second Dawn of the Dead.

Problem with these types of movies is that they always do something stupid to ruin it... Examples thinking zombies and the whole baby thing in the remake.
I liked the Dawn remake excluding the baby bullshit because it wasn't used on any level to further the story, just to have a baby zombie. |

Looks like this has turned into a Day of the Dead remake. Ving Rhames will be returning but it won't be his role carrying over from the Dawn of the Dead remake. More info here on the writer and director and a possible release date. -Zavier |

I can't wait for this movie, and I hope they don't screw it up. I love the old Day of the Dead by George A. Romero, so I'm keeping my hopes up for this. But I can't believe Nick Cannon is in this movie! The only two people I think fit for this movie is Ving Rhames and Mena Suvari (even though she looks a little too innocent) but the rest of the cast looks a little too camera friendly. Does anyone else think the poster looks like a ripoff of Land of the Dead's? Sean |

Quoted Text Fango spoke with writer Jeffrey Reddick about the film, where he revealed that Ving will be playing the "Captain Rhodes" character, while Mena Suvari plays "Sarah," and Nick Cannon plays "Salazar." These were all leading characters in the original. He also adds how this is a "re-imagining" a not necessarily a remake. Of course, we all know that the term "re-imagining" is just a smart way of saying that it's a remake, only with some different stuff added to it. The term is being used a lot now-a-days since Hollywood is afraid to admit that it's out of ideas. |
