I've enjoyed all his sci-fi output - Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers... Hell, even Hollow Man was two thirds of a good film let down by a dodgy final act.
As long as they get the original writers back and bring back the rather cruel satirical moments and the full-on violence then I'm there!
They can't exactly do a Robocop Begins here, since the first movie was his beginning... A reboot might be in order here if it has an intelligent plot, though.
One thing I disagree with Verhoven on is Page Flectcher being used in a new film. Maybe I'm getting him mixed up...is Flectcher the guy in Robocop: Meltdown and Ressurection? Or is he the one in the series with that holographic woman in it? If its the latter, I hope they don't use him because I think he played Robocop like a cardboard cutout.
Otherwise, I would like to see Verhoven's deeper, more realistic take on the character without all the comic book elements. I think the Robocop franchise still has some life left in it for the big screen. New actors, new story, new style - I think this could work.
Wasn't those other Robocop films that came out a few years back a reboot of sorts? I don't see any point to have any more Robocop films for the simple fact they have done 6... I think anyway but they don't need a reboot because people like Robocop as is.
The Begins era hurts the original Batman films that aren't as bad as people have made them out to be in order to promote Begins more... Pointless ego boosters for rich people is all I see going on here.
They want money so they'll revive every series even if it's good just to suck out all they can before they go off into the sunset.
