Variety is reporting that 20th Century Fox TV is in early discussions to go back into production with Futurama, the Emmy-winning animated series that ran on Fox from March 1999 to August 2003, giving it a Family Guy-style resurrection.

I wasn't a fan of Futurama when it originally aired (unlike Family Guy or Simpsons), but since then, I've started watching the re-runs on the Comedy channel and find it awesome. I just don't think people 'got' the humour intended, the humour is a little different than The Simpsons and people tried to compare the two. It's like comparing Apples and Oranges.

Good news indeed.

I enjoyed Futurama and agree that it should stay off air because a Tv series has a shelf life and when you go past that you become pointless.

I understand why Fox wants it back though because of the god knows how many good shows it cancels because it doesn't know how to properly advertise them. Fox is the only station that sucks the life out of entertaining TV and leaves us with a cheap taste.

I hope Futurama returns with new episodes.  They have good imaginations, and I'd love to see what they come up with.

Oh please God I hope this happens, Futurama is fantastic and was cut painfully short. Unlike The Simpsons, Futurama doesn't quite do that thing of returning to normal at the end/beginning of each episode so that, I dunno, Lisa has five 8th birthdays or something. The relationship between Fry and Leela for example was an ongoing thing that developed slowly, and it was implied in the last episode that they were going to get together (which I think/hope would make for some great comic opportunities). Then it just ended. It felt like it was cancelled way before its time. It only had four seasons for crying out loud. I know some people (not me) think The Simpsons isn’t funny anymore, but even that issue didn't come up until a few years ago, which means it managed, what, 12 seasons before people started to say it had run its course? I doubt they're anywhere near running out of ideas for Futurama after just four seasons, and it was getting funnier as if the only way was up. Its shelf life surely wasn't four seasons. I'm pretty sure the high quality would still be there if they put this one back into production. Come on! I have all the box sets and there's only so much of re-watching them and thinking "they're never gonna make any more of these!" I can take!

"Are you saying I'm crazy!?"
"Oh no, but I'm certainly thinking it loudly"

Matt Groeining has said that since he may be having the series again he might as well make the movie.

I think its an awesome idea. Hopefully it airs in theaters.

Hahahaha. David X. Cohen is pretty hilarious. His commentaries on Simpsons and Futurama episodes make me laugh a lot. Just as a side note, does anyone know why he changed from David S. Cohen to David X. Cohen? I noticed that his old name is on the Simpsons episodes, but he's always credit as "X" on Futurama. I'm just curious.

I cannot wait for new Futurama episodes. I think the show was cancelled way too early and I'm very happy they're bringing it back, more so than Family Guy. Movie don't look too bad either. I'm looking forward to meeting Nudar the alien nudist as well. God bless Matt Groening and David X. Cohen.

Cheers, Chism.

My main question is how many episodes will there be in this new season?  If it's any less than 26, I'll be maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

From what I've heard they're doing the movie plus another thirteen episodes. It's enough for me. I'm surprised you were expecting twenty-six, that's a massive amount of episodes.

Cheers, Chismeister.
