I don't know if they're already a thread for this because I'm new, but I just had to post it!

Wonder Woman has been announced to be a movie.

Joss Whedon is directing!

And I've a HUGE fan of the super heroine AND Joss Whedon, so this is awesome!

Anyone share my sentiments, or not, say something, eh?

I hope they don't make something like Catwoman. I really hope they don't try and base the movie around how hot the actor is who is playing the role of Wonder Woman.

They still have cast WW yet.  I'm hoping for Rosario Dawson.

Wonder Woman!!!
All the world is waiting for you
And the magic that you do
In her satin tights
Fightin’ for her rights
And the ole’ red white and blue --

Breanne <= Lynda Carter wannabe -- hehe

I think it will be sad if they don’t set this during WWII since that’s where the roots of the character trace back to.

Interesting side note - Wonder Woman was created by Charles Moulton, the same man who invented the lie detector; hence Wonder Woman’s lasso that “compels you to tell the truth.”

If they were to have it take place during World War 2, then I'd suggest Jennifer Connelly.  She has that beauty for the 1940's.

Charisma Carpenter seems to be a favorite choice among the Joss Whedon fans.

Kate Beckinsale has reportedly joined the race to play Wonder Woman.

The British actress is in negotiations with Whedon, according to movie gossip website joblo.com. Insiders claim Whedon is "very happy" with Beckinsale and confirmed last week that production on his highly anticipated movie adaptation of the popular comic book series will begin filming in early September.-imdb

What about Monica Bellucci? She's got the generic look that Wonder Woman is.

I read an article that wasn't in english but the headline says Monica Bellucci as Wonder Woman. It is dated 8.4.05.

Joss Whedon recently talked to Wizard.

WHEDON I am having enormous trouble with the ["Wonder Woman" movie] script. It's going very well and I'm loving life, but because it's only at script stage and there will be no discussion of casting before, I don't really deal with that. No, it's weird, I'm in my office and it's just me.

WHEDON It's kept me busy for a long time. I'm finally finishing the second draft. I'm very happy with it, but wow! Wow, this one was like pulling teeth. It's tough. I would watch "Batman Begins" and just grumble, just b*tch and moan, because he's got everything. He's got so much of the work done for him. He's got the best rogues' gallery. He's got the best origin story. Wonder Woman is a lot more to figure out. But it's coming together.

You can read the full interview at the link above.

I don't think this is going to do that well at the box office. I'm curious about this film and will probably watch it on DVD, but that's only because I'm a big fan of comic books. Is there that big of a fan base for this film?

I hate Joss Whedon.  He seems to be very stuck up his own ass.  However, I do enjoy his movies from the ovverrated "Serenity" to the underrated "Alien: Ressurection" to the absolute masterpiece, "Toy Story."  Be that as it may, though, do we really need a Wonder Woman movie?  I suppose the question here is not a personal attack on WW so much as it is a personal attack on all origin flicks.  How many times can we see this?  The first "Spider-Man" did a good enough job and "Batman Begins" executed the Dark Knight's rise perfectly.  However, there's still flicks like "The Punisher" and "The Hulk" that have me cringing everytime I think of them.  Oh, well... I suppose I have faith in Whedon... I just wish he would sometimes stop talking.

Yeah, "The Hulk" was a disaster of epic proportions. "The Punisher" was a little better, but it was a far cry from what it should have been. But the best thing about comic book films is that you have so much history, stories and characters behind them that you can relaunch the films, having learned from your previous mistakes. "Batman" and "Superman" are examples of these. Marvel is going to do a sequel to "The Hulk", and they're calling it a "lighter version". I think they're going with a man in a suit this time, which I think is the right way to go. They're also doing "The Punisher II", and are waiting for the right script to come in. I think Jigsaw is going to be in this one.

So, anyway, if Wonder Woman fails, I'm sure it won't be entirely doomed.
