So, J.J. Abrams will attempt to revive the Star Trek franchise from its current deathlike state. The story deals with the Starfleet Academy days of the original series' characters. Who do you think should play the role of a young James T. Kirk?

Yeah, these are just the names I've been hearing. Feel free to list off other choices.

I think that Chad Michael Murray would fit into the role pretty well. He seems to have that JTK swagger.Young ladies man, confident, yet with a hint of vulnerability.I just seen him in  another movie the other day, and he was the first one to pop into my head. The other choices just don't seem to fit.

Nick Stahl as Kirk?  I like the guy, but I don't see him as Kirk.  McCoy, maybe, but not Kirk.

I can be quite twitchy, but in a rational and commanding sort of way, so I should play Kirk.  I mean it.  They should definately ask to see my acting resume.

i'll tell you, if i were writing this movie... i'd get Shatner/Nimoy involved... as older versions of the characters... maybe something that happened in their starfleet days that comes up - forcing them to recount the events surrounding their early days together- do the movie as a flashback...

that would be really cool

A movie consisting of flashbacks of their youths?  This is pretty much what a sitcom does when it's preparing to jump the shark.

Leave TOS cast out and start new.

I think Star Trek jumped the shark some time ago right around when we departed the Enterprise and started with all the spin-offs. And then there was that Troi-Worf romance...what the hell?

It didn't occur to me that some of you guys might not recognize this guy...

That's Dr. Mabuse, or Martin Lancaster to his friends (if he had any friends....)

Get the rest of the story on this obscenely long thread:
