I was excited for The Ring 2, saw it, and thought it was not bad-a little messed up and lost, but not bad at all.
I think that by making The Ring 3 they are going to try to tie up the loose ends (yes, many loose ends left from The Ring 2). The only problem is, that those loose ends which needed to be tied up aren't exactly for the horror genre - but I guess Hollywood can make something out from it.
I'm not sure what to think really. Either it'll be good or terrible. Who knows.
And also, as well as The Ring 3 - Hideo Nakata hints on a five (Ringu, Rasen, Ringu 2, Ringu 0) installation for the Ringu films - Loop - the final book.
They say that they want to save Sadako and Samara and also stop their evil curse, but if they're going to keep making films such as this it'll never end.
Sounds pretty cool, and if they find a way to redeem the evil and save Samara they'll just come up with a new way for the curse to go on. I think it would be a good way to satisfy the story arc.Yet be able to keep it fresh, and maybe a little meaner.
Sounds interesting though.Who here is going to write it? Come on, I know there's a bunch of people here who have ideas for this?
Maybe we should hold a writing contest here and when we pick the right one we can all flood the prod. company's email boxes with queries for it! J/K Of course we will all recieve writing credit!
But seriously, I am interested in seeing another chapter.
A spoon does not know the taste of soup, nor a learned fool the taste of wisdom.
The Ring 3 is already in production, and scheduled to be released in 2007. It seems that it will be similar to that of Ring 0.
It will take place 30 years before The REing, telling the story of Anna Morgan (Samara's Mother). It has also been confirmed that this installment will be of smaller scale than the first two.
Here's the whole thing, from Wikipedia:
The Ring 3 is an upcoming scheduled third installment in The Ring series. It is currently in production and scheduled to be released 2007 by DreamWorks and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It will be a prequel to The Ring. Most likely, the story will be similar to those of "Ringu 0: Birthday"
This movie will take place 30 years prior to The Ring, telling the story of Samara's mother. As it is a prequel to the first two features, it is unlikely that it will star Naomi Watts.
And from Movieweb -
According to Variety, DreamWorks is moving forward on its third installment of The Ring.
No writer has been hired, but producer Walter Parkes has confirmed that "The Ring 3" is being developed and that the new film will be made on a smaller scale than the first two.
Those films, both of which starred Naomi Watts, were in the $60 million range.
The new The Ring will be "by its very nature a small, intimate movie," Parkes said at a press junket for DreamWorks' summer tentpole The Island.
The first The Ring, released in 2002, grossed $129 million domestically. The Ring Two, which unspooled earlier this year, took in $75 million.
Watts will likely not star this time around. Instead, pic will be told from the point of view of another character who also has the misfortune of sliding the infamous videotape into the VCR.
Was does it mean by "Smaller scale than the first two"?
Anyways, it sounds interesting, but if The Ring Two didn't get that much money, including all the people who hated it, I don't think this one will do as well...
If they follow the storyline of Ringu 0, it should be pretty good. Of the three (four?) japanese movies based on the stories, I found this third to be the best (though it has nothing to do with the original videotape). Sadako's tale was very creepy in many ways snice it felt like she was being taken over by something, but you never really knew what.
What will fans think? They'll probably hate it. That doesn't mean it won't be good though.
