Just noticed this on Script Shadow. Sadly I also ntoiced they've stopped posting scripts. Bougger...
2Wow, this is shocking. I can't believe they're doing this. Variety is reporting...
"Twentieth Century Fox is resuscitating its "Alien" franchise. The studio has hired Jon Spaihts to write a prequel that has Ridley Scott attached to return as director.
Spaihts got the job after pitching the studio and Scott Free, which will produce the film.
The film is set up to be a prequel to the groundbreaking 1979 film that Scott directed. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them."
Not crazy about the fact that they'll be shooting them in 3D. In my opinion, the 3D technology is not good enough for live action yet - it seems to work much better with animation (or CGI).
Anyway, the story seem to go hand in hand with the commentary track Ridley Scott did on the Alien DVD - which should mean that the Space Jockey returns. This is good news imo.

The 3D thing I could go either way on. It looked good in Avatar and by the time they get around to shooting these two I'm sure the technology will have taken another step forward. The story is moving in a great direction, though. Seems like they're really taking advantage of all the unanswered questions from the original.
I can't live the buttoned-down life like you. I want it all. The dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles. Sure, I may offend some of the blue bloods with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "city fathers," who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards and talk about what's to be done with this Homer Simpson?
Okay, what do we know about this movie? Ridley Scott is directing, Damon Lindelof and John Spaiths wrote the script, it's got one kickass cast (if IMDb got their shit straight) and it'll be release in 2012. What else? It started out as a prequel to Alien but apparently that idea was scrapped and an original story was created instead. Now, Lindelof said that it defintely still was an prequel to Alien but not necessarily an Alien Movie. Same with the Space Jockey which, in some shape or form, may - or may not - appear in this film (the rumours vary depending on who's talking).
These pictures definitely looks like it's set in the Alien-universe. Whether it's an Alien movie or not...I'm fucking there.

"Looks pretty damn good. Been waiting for some decent sci-fi since Moon.
--Julio"
Moon! fantastic hard Sci-Fi. I'm waiting for Source Code to come out on DVD. Heard good things about that.
This looks interesting. From the photos Ive seen so far it has a very alien look about it. Lets have our fingers crossed that Scott can pull it off. A lot of fanboy expectations with this one.
This means the trailer will be out for the holidays. But I certainly hope this isn't an early indicator of a potential PG-13 for the film.
Though honestly, the released material so far feels very PG-13 to me. A lot of of the images I'm seeing lately remind of "Star Trek - The Motion Picture". Seems more V-ger and Kubrickian monolithy than an Alien franchise story.

LATEST NEWS CineVita Films is producing a short based on my new feature!
Even hard R movies are 14A in Canada, some are even PG. We very rarly get an 18A rating, it has to be almost a porn or snuff film, the last scream was only 14A.
I have absolutely no problems with not having any aliens in it (the two AvP movies sorta destroyed the franchise). It appears instead that it will focus on the Space Jockey. I have three words for that: About. Fucking. Time.
I'm actually getting more and more excited about this movie every time I read something new about it. The whole thing looks dark and ominous. Very Giger'esque. Almost like a return to the original.
Is that an egg they're shining their lights at?
Btw. the first trailer (I imagine it will be a teaser) will online in 3 days. There's a short clip up now HERE
