As much as I enjoyed Shaun of the Dead, I was incredibly skeptical about Zombieland. SofD was so good because it was smart and very evident that a lot of time and effort went into it. I wasn't convinced that the same amount of thought was put into Zombieland. In fact, this movie reminded me a lot of the game Dead Rising. Would Zombieland make a good video game? Absolutely. Would Zombieland make a good movie starring Woody Harrelson? Eh, maybe.
Looks okay but nothing special. I'm getting tired of running zombies, not to mention the general phenomenon of zombies becoming a pop culture icon. They don't even make them look cool anymore. There's barely any differentiation amongst zombies in movies anymore. The genre's losing steam fast. I think this one is gonna need a lot more than Woody Harrelson and nailing a zombie with a piano to stand out from the flock.
I've never understood running zombies. How can the process of dying and coming back to life INCREASE your physical abilities? People always point to 28 Days Later as the start of it...but they weren't zombies, they were living people infected with the Rage virus. In zombie films nowadays, the recently revived corpses can not only run, but out-run the humans! So they're not only faster than they were when they were alive, but their stamina has increased, too. Hmm...
This does look quite good. Abigail Breslin is a fine young actress, and this is a departure from her usual fare so that'll be interesting. Whether I'll actually go and see this or not? Well, that's another matter.
From what I remember, the Shaun of the Dead trailer was pretty funny, but the film seemed more dramatic than I thought. Hopefully this is as Funny as the teaser.
