Trailer is up- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqyKYrDta_E

Looks good. But then again, I didn't mind Tim Burton's remake... so my opinion might not matter.

I liked Tim Burton's remake (except for the ending), but this looks good, too.

I love P of A! My favorite show as a kid.

The remake I thought was a disappointment, with some good things. The apes looked cool. But the story didn't make sense, if memory serves me. How long would it take for chimps to evolve into the apes from the movie? Couple hundred thousand years?

But I am happy there's a new one coming out!

In the last movie, the chimps were all genetically altered.  That's how they evolved so quickly.

I'm more concerned with where they got horses.

You know you're watching the trailer for a certain kind of film when you read "From Weta Digital, the visual effects company for Avatar'".

Top billing goes not to an actor, director, producer, or writer...but to the visual effects company. Hmm.

Guess who's back? Back again?

For whatever reason, I just flat-out don't buy James Franco as a scientist.

You know when people say, "If people stopped going to crap, the studios would stop making crap"?

This is it.  This is crap.  This is some of the crap.

Stay in and read Daniel Quinn's "Ishmael" instead.  Now there's a monkey story!

pretty dramatic music for a bunch of apes who just knocked over tables and chairs.

i was actually thinking about writing a short based on those shuttle launches in the 70's where a monkey would be shot into space. like have the monkey land on an unknown planet somehow. but i never wrote it because i thought it would be too similar to planet of the apes.

but thats besides the point. this movie looks like a snooze fest.

And this is why I don't like CGI.

I remember the original Planet with Charlton Heston. At the beginning, when they're in the field and the horns blow, then something on horseback is chasing them. All the humans are running. Then you first see the ape, hunting. That was cool.

I didn't mind Burton's remake either. This movie is kind of unnecessary, but the trailer looked cool. I don't think I'll be able to look at those apes without thinking of Jackson's Kong but maybe that's what they're going for.

I can't live the buttoned-down life like you. I want it all. The dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles. Sure, I may offend some of the blue bloods with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "city fathers," who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards and talk about what's to be done with this Homer Simpson?

I'm a big fan of the entire Ape series but the ailment IMO of every single movie with the exception of the original with Charlton Heston is that all of the human characters can be replaced by cardboard cutouts and nothing would be different.  The apes were always an interesting story but the humans were always poorly developed.  I loved the 2001 version when I first saw it.  But each succeeding time I've seen it I've disliked it a little more because Mark Wahlberg's acting was equivalent to a baked potato.

The trailer looks great.  I just hope Franco's performance can deliver.

Hey, I love CGI.  Used correctly, it makes just so many things possible that could never have been pulled off in films before the art was perfected.

I just don't like the idea of it taking precedence over an actual plot and story.  (Like Avatar.)

Oops.  Did I really say that?  Sorry...I'll go crawl in a corner over here and hide now...

But - looks like this P of A movie might be fun to see for free on HBO or Let Me Watch This... (Burton's version fit into the same category.  Though the ending was crap.  Can't beat Rick Baker for FX though...)

Greg: LOVE the baked potato comment!  Made me actually smile...

Ha! True, it can definitely work. Those apes look about as real as [something that doesn't look real]. Shame, 'cos the trailer looks pretty cool, even if it's kind of a 28 Days retread.

Still, like a huge hypocrite, I'll go and watch it.

Looks pretty bad to be honest. Standard movie about science run amok that'll evolve into an over-bloated action picture. The gorilla jumping to the copter reminded me of the preview from Wolverine. In fact, I had to re-watch it over to make sure it wasn't Hugh Jackman.
