Gotta love the English sense of humour! Only they could not spoil a cool idea like this!

I'm immediately inspired to write a uniquely Aussie snappy comedy/horror/action piece...

This is Joe Cornish's directorial debut.
It won the Midnight Audience award at SXSW.
I like the company he keeps though.
He's collaborating with Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) on Ant Man.
And he co-wrote Tin-Tin for that Spielberg guy.

Was fortunate to attend a private screening of the film last night.
It's a fun crowd pleaser that cross pollenates Tremors with The Warriors.
The South London slang is not too thick. But it's that tough market sell.
A rated R movie about young kids, hence, primarily an adult audience.
Which is why I think Sony Pictures is only giving the film a limited theatrical run.

Other than a having the page 70 blues, the film is tight and fun.
Nick Frost turns in an entertaining supporting role as the local weed provider.
The story is simple, but almost too sparse at times.
The creatures steal the show. Best mix of practical and CG I've seen in a long time.

The writer/director, Joe Cornish, did a surprise appearance for a Q&A!
And he brought along Mr. Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright.
Not to mention free popcorn and the cinema uses real butter!
All in all in was a cheap fun night of independence.
