Did any SS folk watch this last week by chance? Would love to hear thoughts on it.
I'll to wait a few weeks for the DVD though it is gonna be on at selected cinemas here in Oz
Stevie,
I *WISH* this was coming out in the states in theaters. HBO gobbled it up, so no such luck.
I am a ginormous George Harrison fan. Cloud Nine came out while I was in high school. Discovered Jeff Lynne and E.L.O. through that comeback album. I back tracked through his catalog, then came the Traveling Wilburys. He's always been the Beatle I connected to the most.
So, yeah, I'm a tad biased when it comes to the documentary. Here it was shown in two parts, totaling about three and a half hours. Buy a large popcorn for this one! The first part is Beatles era, and part two covers post-Beatles activity.
The documentary is a tad padded at times about the early years. It's when George came into his own that I really got into it. The film is never dull and dear George will always be close to my heart. His passing shortly after 9/11 was a real blow to me. The first musician I cherished had passed on.
When it comes out in the U.S. on DVD, I will scoop it up for sure!
Regards, E.D.

Yeah, I've seen bits of it on Youtube but have tried not to watch too much so I can enjoy the DVD when it comes out.
On the Beatle fan site I hang out on, a lot of people saw it on HBO and said there was tons of unseen footage, especially in the first half, with George's childhood and Beatles era.
Now I've read every decent book about the boys, seen innumerable vids and pictures, so anything new is mind-boggling to say the least.
Many Beatle fans, especially women, reckon George was the best looking of the Fab Four. I have to say, even from a male point of view, they are correct. At times during the beatle era, he was even better looking than Paul!
I agree about George 100%. There was something about him that I felt connected to. His music, philosophy, gardening, racing, obsession with precision, all of it.
Through him I discovered, E.L.O., Clapton, Orbison, what a trip. It's amazing how much Dhani looks just like him.

Yeah, and the concert they did for him was amazing.
Its funny cos I'm not a huge fan of the beatles solo careers. I have some old records and tapes of Macca and John but have never really been into much of them.
I like certain solo songs but it never felt the same with out the four of them.
42 years since i became a Beatle fan. And the passion I have is as strong now, if not even stronger.
