Not for me this one... I remember the cartoon... and I didn't think much of that as a kid either. It was just better than all the other crap that was on in the same time slot during the 80's.
A dinosaur coming out of the water to fight whatever (I really couldn't care less) doesn't interest me in the slightest. My kids will love it though.
Meh...6, maybe a 6.5, and only for special effects and a little heart tugging.
Back in the day, Godzilla ripped up trees and rammed them down King King's throat. He slammed his fists together like WWF King of Monsters! And that's what started to come out in the end, Godzilla shitting down the cockroach's throat, but that attitude should have come out long before...that Godzilla was going to kick some ass. It should have come out in Tokyo. Then Honolulu. A fight in each city where Godzilla was close to killing that bat thing, but no cigar, and bat thing kept flying off toward the honey from Yucca Mountain. This film is woefully short on Godzilla old school WWF so when the finale came, the audience clap was lame...no set up at all for any clapping. Pacific Rim was better in all categories.
This film should have had a three round fight: Tokyo, Honolulu, San Fran, instead of one (San Fran), with a focus on the fight, not the bomb. The bomb means nothing in the end so why focus on it (except getting a couple tears for Brody as the bomb ticks off)? Having a final fight born from lost battles before means the finale would have garnered a true standing O for Godzilla, the monster that saved our city, our nation, nothing less. How can you root for Brody and Godzilla when only Godzilla saves the day? Split focus=loser.
I felt nothing for any character, even Godzilla. The only moment that was like, damn, awesome, was when Brody set alight the eggs...that was good stuff.
The only scary moment was when the bird hit the bus window. Really? That's all?
Lots of cool stuff when summed up added to less than what it could have been.
Don't think I'll ever watch it again.
The most excitement we had was watching a seat fight before it started.
Awesssommmee movie. Even though I wish this was a straight up Godzilla kills everyone thing it was still good to see him be the hero. The two things I can complain about are:
1. Not enough Cranston, wish he was a main character.
2. The constant cut aways from the battles or of Godzilla. It hypes the action then instantly cuts away. But it had that finale battle, was quite epic.
Overall I enjoyed the movie, got me riveted and when Godzilla screamed for the first time on screen, I was like "Oh yeah...".
One more thing, could of been scarier, I was expecting it to be horrifying, all the death and destruction that was in the trailer had me more scared than the movie. They ruined tension with music.
But, was a great flick, GOUJIRA!!! Me and my friends were flipping out *SPOILER* when Godzilla sprayed his beam down the female's throat, awesome stuff. 8/10
