Tears of a Clown by Finn Dudaniec - Action, Adventure, Romance, Urban - A surly fighter tries to shake-off a headstrong dancer he rescues from the street but in a twist of fortune, comes to depend upon her for survival. 123 pages - pdf format
I read this on a whim and blazed through it. Technically, its an exceptional read, very lean and very visual, not a line wasted. The writer really knows how to create a milieu, paint a scene, an atmosphere. The first page alone tells you that.
Storywise it has a lot going for it too. It careens off in a rather unexpected, idiosyncratic direction halfway through before veering back into familiar territory for the climax. The characters are well drawn and distinctive if not entirely original...but what is nowadays? I have some reservations about certain parts, primarily the antagonistic element but all in all its an impressive work.
I don't know if the writer is around so not going to say any more.
