Hey guys/gals.

I PM'ed Bert on wether I could post a partial script and he said that Don doesn't really like that idea.

So, Bert gave me this great idea.

Whatever you have, you can post the IDEA here and ask if someone could review it either free-will or as an exchange.

This means, if you have the first thirty pages of a new spec but haven't finished it, you can ask someone if they would like to review it.  BUT, DO NOT POST IT HERE!!!

AGAIN!  DO NOT POST IT HERE!

The idea would work as follows:

THE POST:

Hello, I have about fifteen pages of my new script  THE SHINNING about this guy that takes his family to a resort hotel but finds that the place is haunted along the way with very funny ghosts.  This drives the main character hilariously insane.

Wondering if someone could tell me what they think of the opening.
Is it a good ten pages?  Does it grab you?  Would you keep reading?  Format?

I can either e-mail it to you or do a partial script review for you.

Thanks let me know!

THE REPLY POST:

Sure.  I'd love to help!  I've PM'd you my e-mail.  PM me yours so I can send you mine.

This is the basic premise.  Maybe it could be a form of guiding writers a bit more since first ten pages and the first act are crucial.

What do you think?

Thanks Bert for the idea.

Sounds like a decent idea to me. Some people aren't too keen on reading pieces of a script, and to be honest, it's not all the easy since the first pages don't tell you much. I guess the best you can get out of it, though, it whether someone is intrigued enough to read more. Might be worth a shot.

This is what the "My Work In Progress" section is for.

Actually, I recommended two things:

1)  Post a synopsis in "Work in Progress" for help or feedback concerning the overall story and plot points and so forth.

2)  Post in the "Script Review Exchange" for a "how is it going so far?" e-mail exchange of partial scripts -- which a couple of people are already doing on that board -- and there have been no problems with that as far as I know.

Leanord's got the general idea, but these things can be done on existing boards.  No need for a new board.

And these comments apply broadly to anyone, of course -- if you find yourself in a situation similar to Leanord's, you should send him a PM and hook up.

Actually Don if you remember Goose started up this very idea where you exchange partials in WIP, I made it sticky and nobody ever used it or if they did very little. (It was like the review exchange before it existed but with unfinished works in progress.)

I don't remember if I deleted the thread or just made it unsticky and it fell down the list. (I would make a thread like this sticky in the Work In Progress board as long as people use it. No use giving people things they don't want.)

The only way i'd agree to doing this is if I knew the person was going to give me some real notes and not just read it over and say "Yeah I enjoyed it" you know?

At the end of the day it depends on how much the person is willing to help, I always try to be honest but started leaving out spelling errors in recent reviews so the writer or his minions don't annoy me with posts about how this show is nothing like Dawson's Creek and yet take it out of context for the rant they wanted to go on... fanboys.

Anyway off to work.
