Quoted from George Willson
Orson Welles was born May 6, 1915. Citizen Kane came out in 1941. This means Welles was 26 when the movie was released and probably 25 when he wrote, produced, directed and starred in it. I knew this sounded too young because that would have put him at under 20 for the famous War of the Worlds broadcast and I knew he looked older than 21 in that movie. He did write, direct, and star in a short called Hearts of Age in 1934 when he was 19, but I hear it was pretty awful.

You're probably right. I think he was 21 when he produced the War Of The Worlds radio broadcast. So this would seem correct him being 25-26 for Citizen Kane..

For example, when I was 21 I...I...I...doesn't matter...

isn't there a movie coming out about the number 23.  seems kinda creepy

Yeah it's a Jim Carrey thriller directed by Joel Schumacher, unless I'm mistaken. The trailers look effectively creepy but there are literally a billion ways to screw up a thriller like that. Just look at Hide and Seek. But, we'll see how it goes when it's released.

Anyway, George was correct. Orson was 25 when he wrote/produced/directed/starred in Citizen Kane. It's a little older than people first thought but it's still an incredible achievement at that or any age, considering just how brilliant Citizen Kane is. I think we're all jealous of his talent.

It's strange how all of these directors started at 23. It's eerie. There must be something about that number. Maybe that's why they decided to make a movie all about it. Interesting.

Cheers, Chismeister.
