Hi guys,

If I want to write a review, how do I find out about the writer beforehand?

Some writers post their scripts and disappear, and so your review goes unread.
Also, had a nasty experience from one writer who sent me an e mail after I had reviewed his work -  and it irked me that I didn't even know anything about him (he'd never posted before he'd submitted his script apparently) and yet he could get my e mail addy.

Many thanks.

The best thing to do is to check the thread and see if the writer has responded to feedback.  If they have, you know your review will go noticed.

If it's a new script that was just uploaded without any reviews, look in the initial post and see if a discussion board username is asociated with it.  From there, you can look up the member, see if they're active (last time they signed in) and how often they post.

There are other cases where a person has just signed up after posting their first script, but the above things can be a good rule of thumb.

I see most of what happens on the boards, and am pretty sure I know which script you are talking about.

In fact, I have had a similar experience, so it can even happen to board veterans.

You handled it appropriately, without lashing out -- but also giving enough information to warn people off that particular script.

Hey, it's my tiny, little IMDb!

Hey Sassy,

Don't worry about it.  That writer obviously couldn't handle criticism.  Go ahead and review.  We'll all appreciated it, and we'll return the favour once your script gets posted.

Most of us have signatures where we have links to our catalogue of scripts here on the site.  So you can check the other writers to see if they have stuck around.

You can get started on the Shiva competition and then Phil's Two Week Challenge.

Happy reading,

Javier

Thanks for the replies...but how do you find the username?  Like, I can't seem to see it , unless of course the writer has replied to feedback. When Don uploads it, there's only the title to click on...or am I seeing but not looking...

The username will be in (), following the author's name. Just remember, not all authors are board members, at least not when they submitted the script. So you can come across scripts written by board members without their username appearing next to the author name.

It's always a good idea to wait and see if the author shows up or replies to existing reviews. Btw. checking their previous posts is a good way to gauge how they'll react to reviews (especially the negative ones). Of course, that'll be difficult to spot if they only get rave reviews - like me

The username is normally next to the author's name, before the logline.

Yeah, it's hard to type replies while fending off hordes of women.

Toby,

You can always ask Don to update the thread with your username. Actually, I'm pretty sure any of the mods can do that if you ask them nicely - and not stand there in that faggety white uniform and with your Harvard mouth extend them some fucking courtesy.

Whoa - I just had Jack Nicholson flashback there.

Probably because your username is basically your real name.  Mine doesn't usually get posted either.
