Hello everyone, My name's Antwain Burgman (You can call me Ant for short), 26 years old, and I'm a long time lurker/first time poster.
I first found this site a couple years ago after searching for a first draft of a horror movie (Hellraiser, most likely). I think all my life I've considered myself a writer, undisciplined, but a writer nonetheless. I've been putting my ideas down since I was in the fifth grade. In fact, some of those ideas won myself a couple creative writing awards throughout the years. As you can see my head's been in the clouds for a while now.
Well a few years back, I drove with my wife to Barnes and Nobles and asked a clerk to point out the "Script Department", 'cause I was about to write myself up a movie.
The gentleman introduced me to a book that literally changed the direction in my life: The Screenwriter's Bible. I don't think anyone around me really took what my passion seriously. It was always something I kept to myself for the most part. That book showed me that it's not impossible for me to write a movie script. Hell, I've been writing stories my entire life but now I'm learning how to focus it to one fine point.
Well, here I am. I have all the tools at my disposal and little to no excuses in front of me. With that said, I'm eager to learn all I can about the craft I dearly love and share any of the knowledge I've gained over my time. I'm going to take it all in--good or bad.
I told myself by the end of the year I want to finish my first screenplay and, by hell or high water, I'm doing it.
(p.s., I apologize for any grammatical errors. It's been a while since I've gotten down to some serious writing)
Screenwriter's bible helps me too. Everytime i write i keep it by my side to check my format. But i like better Syd field's book "Screenplay , the foundation of screenwriting".
Howdy Antwain! I'm trying to finish a screenplay as well, although it's a novel adaptation. I'm about 1/3 of the way through. Thanks for pointing out the Screenwriter's Bible, I've been meaning to get that but had forgotten until now, thanks. Welcome to the boards!
Ant, welcome to SS. I know you will learn a lot from the very knowlegable and talented writers here. I know I certainly have and i knopw you will too. I look forward to reading your first script. Again, welcome. Marvin.
