Hey all,
So I’ve just started using Dropbox. So far, so good but still in the process of figuring it out.
A few questions for those who use it,
First off, I want to post a new draft of a script in Dropbox form. I think I remember someone here mentioning a while back that if you post the Dropbox link in the script thread, Don or one of the mods can edit the main link on the first page so that it goes to the one you’ve provided. Is this accurate or would I need to submit the script the regular way and give the Dropbox link instead of uploading the script from my computer? Or something else to that effect?
Second, how do you create a Dropbox link that actually shows the full script instead of prompting someone to download it or automatically downloading it to someone’s computer?
Finally, for future reference, how does one submit a script to SS in Dropbox form the first time around? Again, I feel like you’d just go about it the regular way but give a link instead of uploading.
Sorry if these seem like stupid/obvious questions. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks! |

Place the script in the public folder. Then copy the link. Send the link to Don in the regular application.
Also, I've learned to use Google Docs(under Drive) for this. Easy, convenient. |

Or save your link in your browser so that you can cut and paste in the future when you need to send it to someone.

Yep. Just submit as you normally would, only provide the Dropbox link and skip the upload part. Don |

I was going to post a new thread but this one should serve.
Is Dropbox any good? Or are there any better places out there to post a script that can be modified with a newer version?
Thanks in advance.

You can use Google Drive too, if you have Gmail. They are both easy to use. |

Not entirely on-topic, but apart from Don's reply, I would also like to add that Mods can go in and amend that original thread in several ways:
- Changing the Title
- Changing the Logline
- Changing the genre
- Changing the page count
All of these are a very quick fix -- just drop me a note -- and no need to bother Don (or yourself) with an entirely new submission for this kind of stuff. |

Thanks for that. I've a work in progress I'll post up soon. It has a serious lack of sharks. No whales either. Or zombies. Well, that might not be entirely true for those with an exceptional dose of the sarcastic bent. |

Just to throw my hat (and comments) in the ring. Dropbox ROCKS! Kev's the only who introduced me to it. And - as with other techie things, like smartphones - it's impossible to live without now that I know how useful it is.
Greatest thing about Dropbox - you can have one single location for a script, linked to multiple sites. And if you do a revision - POW... it's instantly updated everywhere. Absolutely essential, IMO.
Google docs? Eh... I've got Dropbox, so that's not all that appealing to me..
Cheers,

I started using Google docs because you can work on it anywhere. No need to bring files with you on a flash. And it has storage just like Drop. So you can place your PDF there and open it from anywhere, replace it if you need. Only thing I can't do is use Final Draft on Google docs.
And now they are adding apps too. I even found a writing app, though I didn't try it out. |

Just to let you guys know Dropbox is not secure... Anything you put in dropbox can be viewed by anyone.
It is a great tool for completed screenplay PDF files as mentioned handy for updating the script on multiple sites. If you google a script name it finds it. There are also tools on the net for accessing secure files from dropbox. Ahhh be careful.
I would not recommend putting a work in progress on there, especially if it is not copyrighted as it will get stolen.
Don't think only a public directory is accessible !!! It's not.
To share files in collaboration, I would recommend a secure FTP site with User and Password access.

Why would you use Dropbox when you can host your own files? |

Erm, is it because they want to? |
