That's a very generous offer, Angel.  Most of the time, no one gets paid for a short as there is no money in it.  The writer gets credit and a copy or two of the finished project.

I think most writers here would let you film their short for free. So long as no rights are being sold and the writer gets their credit. Personally, I would feel like a douche bag taking $80 from you if your production budget is only $100.

If you find a short script you like, just ask the writer for permission. My guess is you'll most likely get a "yes"...

Yeah, that is what it would take

But I second these guys, Angel -- shop around on the boards and if you find something you like, simply approach the author.

For a short script, "most" authors are of the mind that the project is better served with money in production -- and on the screen -- as opposed to buried in their own pockets.

And then they just blow it on booze anyway....

Hey, it's my tiny, little IMDb!

Dear James,

Thanks for your reply. I'll try and ask around. It's just that I'm kind of reluctant to do so because since I haven't really directed any films before I just don't think I'm in the position to ask to film scripts right away, even if I find one I like.

I dunno. I just feel like it would be rude or something.

Not rude... How else are you going to get the scripts?  If you see something you like, just ask.  Worse that could happen would be the author would say no.  Then you try another - there's lots of scripts here.

There's plenty of occasions that an author will let a first time director use their script for a college project.   So we are all used to first time directors.

There are a lot of writers on this site that would love to have one of their shorts filmed for "NO MONEY." Especially from a college student just starting out...
As Phil stated... Credit for writing and maybe a copy should make the writer happy.

Good Luck with your project.

I'll take the $80.00...

I dont see Unicef posted anywhere here on the website.

I also want 5% on the back end...

Lunch money, field trip escrow, and of course...

Prom night first screening rights.

BTW, welcome to S.S and if there is any place you can find a short script for your project, it's here.

This place is crawling with them.

Best of luck, and again...

Welcome.

I'd at least want one dollar.  That way I can tell people I sold a screenplay.

Angel, all you need to do is ask and people will be happy to let you film their script.

Please feel free to read the shorts I've written and let me know if you'd like to film any of them.  Just click on the blue title in my signature below.

If you have an idea for a short, but can't seem to put it into words, let's collaborate and then we can share screenwriting credit.

I wish you the best of luck.

Jordan
