Some of you may be wondering why it's ME that's posting this as opposed to the Director himself. Basically, I've been doing a little networking outside of SS and MP. Some of you may know that I've recently been quite interested in Script Coverage. So, to deal with this, I thought that maybe I should get some experience in the area. I posted online, offering free script coverage, so I could gain a little experience.

Things have kicked off for me since then. I was contacted by a screenwriter who was interested and I will be reading and writing up my report on their script tomorrow. Additionally, I got contacted by a film director who was wondering if I had stumbled across anything that he thought was worth taking a look at. Here is his initial correspondence...

"Hi Daniel I gravitate toward films about quirky vulnerable characters where the world is just a bit different from our own - and the difference ends up being crucial to the story. Redemptive rather than scorched-earth films. Moving rather than medicinal.

I'm a big fan of ETERNAL SUNSHINE. The strong relationship component, big, relatable stakes, and a small change to the world that opens up big surreal possibilities. To me it has an optimistic ending.

Just rewatched O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU and loved it as well. The characters' spirit, upbeat joy, somewhat otherworldly feel. Taking us places we haven't been with characters who are new to us but whom we quickly enjoy.

KUNG FU HUSTLE for similar reasons. AMELIE, STRANGER THAN FICTION, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED - these all fit my taste.

Thanks for offering to look. I certainly appreciate it. Joe"

The expected budget sits at around 1M. 3M if he really loves the script.

I ended up telling Joe that I couldn't think of anything and then offered to post to these websites. I also offered to provide script coverage on any bites that I received. He agreed and gave me the go-ahead.

If you think you have what Joe wants, send your submissions in to me at dan.chaosscripts@gmail.com along with a logline. I'll contact you if further details or needed.

PLEASE NOTE: Any scripts that we think match the criteria will have script coverage written on them, free of charge. I will be writing that coverage. If you wish for a copy, you need only ask in your email.

Thanks,

Dan

Congrats Dan. I might ask you for coverage or a job as a reader. lol.

I'm curious in how do you put these coverges in a resume though? Not trying to being negative, just really curious.

No negative vibes taken from that at all, Gabe. I run my own independent blog that offers free script coverage, so I'd probably word it like this...

Script Reader at 'Chaos Scripts' since 2013

RESPONSIBILITIES
Providing free feedback to writers from around the world.

Something like that. Haven't thought it through to be completely honest with you.

Thanks Khamanna. Had a few bites already. It's a bit of a battle of the Simplyscripters at the moment . Looking forward to reading these scripts.

Really cool Dan.

I've been working on a feature that may be a fit.  I'll send it over.

Thanks everyone.

Khamanna and John, I have received your submissions. If I don't reply straight away, it's not because I've forgotten about you guys. I'm closing in on 60 submissions at the moment and that's still climbing. They're starting to slow down now.

It's a horrible thing to come across a brilliant idea and then have to turn it down because the budget is too high or the script is hardly readable. I feel horrible turning down concepts that have so much potential, purely for the reason that we aren't looking for that type of story.

I'm liking the new challenge. It's exciting.

Hello Dan.

Is it too late to send a script inn? I have a one that has previously been in query for option several times, but felt I needed to prove myself and the story better before letting it go. It kinda reads like "slumdog millionaire" meets "the fighter".

Hi there,

Unfortunately, submissions have closed for this one. The Director said that I should cut off submissions mid-March. It wasn't something he originally mentioned in my initial contact with him. Sorry you missed the date. Maybe next time?
