Well I'm at viable first draft stage (took me 4 drafts to get there) with my first amazing concept. Just working on the pitch now and I'll shoot it over.

That leaves me almost four months to write one of my other amazing concepts. I have two Hollywoodesque ideas that I can run with. Decisions, decisions.

Don't forget about this, SSers. If you're not in it, you can't win it.

We may not be on the same page that often,  but if you ever want an offline read, fire it across.

Best of luck. You don't half put the graft in. Me, I just fiddle with short scripts, keeps me happy I suppose.

Thanks mate, I'll send something your way to look at. Doesn't matter to me if we're not on the same page. Forcing a writer to analyse their work is very important. No matter the rights and wrongs of it. I've been put off before by writers' responses to some of my comments, but sometimes writers will react like that when their precious work is questioned.

I think writing short scripts is harder. No, that's a lie. I think stories are just stories. You can take any story and make it a short, a feature, short story or novel, even a radio play or musical. I started with features and then went onto shorts, I've also attempted a radio play that didn't go too well, but it's important to stretch your writing muscles and work on areas where you're not as comfortable. You don't know until you try.

Well it's been 4 days and my email pitches haven't been opened yet. I use email tracking so I know when my emails are opened.

I sent a pitch to channel 4 once and it never got opened. Not unusual, but it is unusual when they requested it in the first place.

Really? I must have forgotten about that bit. I remember reading that he'd be in touch by some time in August at the latest. I think it was the 'at the latest' bit that made me think this was more of an informal thing and that he'd be reading pitches all the way to the deadline.

Thanks for clearing that up.

He must be getting hundreds, if not thousands of scripts. Any yet its not about how good the script is, but how good is the pitch. He could end up with 250 rubbish scripts with mindblowing pitches lol.

It's all down to if he likes the ideas or not. I don't think the pitch matters as much as the idea. You could do it in 50 words really.

At least I hope so. I was drunk when I sent the last pitch. But I've read through it and it's better than the pitch I sent sober. So, who knows.

I'm guessing that in many cases he's not even getting pass the log line

I still intend to submit to this (why not?), but I like being realistic about the chances of success. They're much better your odds of getting a six-figure sale, but still not that good. Good luck to all SSers who enter, though. =)

What's the point in playing if it isn't to win?

Eff that attitude. I've tried hard. Two of my best Hollywoodesque ideas from two sides of the spectrum. Something highly commercial and then something more cerebral. I do have another cerebral script but it's too complex for me to finish just yet.

In fact, I'm going to run through both scripts again over the next few days. I've had a read from a friend on one. I'd suggest you do the same.

Who said I'm not playing to win? I just don't go in expecting to win. That would be, as I explained, unlikely. Believe me, if you don't believe that I've put in the effort on my script, you're sorely mistaken. A good number of people have read mine. There was only one review that was truly negative while the rest all had virtually the same critique, something I plan to alleviate on this draft. Best of luck. =)

Sounds like a contradiction to me.
