So...

How many people have a horse in this race for 2019?

What script did you enter and what are your hopes or expectations?

I entered a script called Shaka, a historical drama. I'm hoping for at least a semi-final spot but the dreamer in me hopes it makes the top 3 in the historical category, fingers crossed.

Anyway... Quarter-finalists announced 15th July   I'll update this thread then.

I threw a drama called The Rising into the mix.  Didn't get very many reads on here; figured the subject matter turned a lot of people off.  Expectations?  This is strictly a hobby for me... throw it at the wall, see if anything sticks.

Good Luck, I'll keep an eye out for it in the quarters.

I've got Cyborn in there but I'm not as confident as I was with The Nearscape, which got through to the semis last year. Plus it's an earlier draft which has a few issues.

Cyborn so far has reached 4 quarter finals (but no further in those comps) and I found out today it is in the Semi-Finals of the Nashville Screenwriting Contest but it's not performing as well in competition as a whole compared to Nearscape.

At this stage I'll be happy if it gets to the  quarter finals - at least then it will be consistent.

Iíve got two. A feature - Christmas, and a short - Close To Sunset. Both have most excellent feedback/coverage, so... Why not? Hoping for the semis, of course and a little recognition never hurt.

Reading it now. Like the first act a lot. A nice brooding, slow burn of a set up. Curious to see where this goes.

I put in two features (Who Wants to Be a Princess? and Glass House) and a short (the Timmy trilogy as a single entity). That was way back in February, so it's no longer the latest and greatest draft for Princess.

Good luck everyone, hope to see some SS titles in the quaters and beyond!

Horror anthology/feature: Glass House Latest draft (2/2019)

I don't like these things... they piss me off. Being a finalist means very little. Winning gets some cash, but it would be better if there was a definite production planned at the end. Good luck to those that enter.

Winning actually means quite a lot and can definitely make big things happen. Other than that, I pretty much agree with you. Although, I had a script be QF and the producers used that when seeking funding. Even though it was just QF, the competition was one of the biggest ones so it carried some weight. Not much maybe, but it meant that the script had at least been through some vetting first.

I'd be leery of a production company willing to make a feature without even knowing the genre or budget requirements in advance... or I'd highly suspect they would unfairly shade the rankings toward exactly the kind of film they wanted to make anyway.

That actually happened to me once. I had a short entered into a competition that promised production to the Grand Prize Winner. My script won and I was announced as winner of the competition, but a script that placed sixth or so was the GPW!!! What the hell. Several people contacted them and asked why my script didn't win that prize and were told that they didn't think it was the right fit for them and wouldn't play well on the festival circuit because it was a Christmas script while they thought the one they picked instead had a much better chance. That was the last time I entered a comp in many years. Don was nice enough though to give me a SS mug though. But yes, they will chose winner by how well it fits their plans, not by quality of script.

I entered my TV series drama Bounty into the mix. Finished in the finals of a couple of other contests, which got me some calls with a couple of managers. First time to enter Page, so not expecting a lot. Maybe to make semis would be nice, but if not, that is okay too.

The version on this site is maybe the first or second draft. The version entered is maybe the twentieth draft and is almost the polar opposite of the original version. I guess there is something to this rewriting thing after all.
