Hello all

This is probably for British writers (It doesn't say that only Brits can submit but if you are a finalist you are expected to attend a workshop on 24th August and a showcase evening on 6th September - both in London)

TV Series scripts based around themes of diversity and inclusion
Deadline: 31st July
Genre: Any

All details at the below link

http://thetcn.com/writerslam/

I found this one interesting as they are in partnership with Amazon Studios.

Not long till the deadline but I thought I would post it up in case someone already had a series that fits the bill and wanted to enter - seems like it could be a great oppurtunity to get a foot through the door for the winner.

WriterSlam is back! This edition of WriterSlam is supported Amazon Studios. We’re looking for new voices for television, who come from all backgrounds. We champion diversity of experience – if you include everyone, you don’t need to exclude anyone.

Including everyone usually means they're not looking for a white male... or even a white female. 'New voices' is a roundabout way of saying 'everything non-white'. White male voices aren't new. White females don't have much of a chance either.

What are we looking for?

Through the WriterSlam, Amazon Studios is looking to provide fresh, diverse talent an opportunity...

Fresh, diverse talent is not a middle-aged white male. Even a white female's work would have to be so great they just couldn't pass it up for something written by a weaker writer just because they pass the colour test.

This ain't no foot in the door for the likes of me and you, Matthew, trust me.

I may look like a white, (not quite) middle-aged male, but I in fact identify as an Asian pansexual female with diabetes - so I'm good.

I had to Google pansexual. I see you can tick 4 boxes. I'm thinking it might be possible to identify as multiple races at once, but it would likely be sniffed out as a joke pretty quickly. I have considered identifying as a black male though before. I love black music (as radio one xtra constantly call it) culture, and people. I usually connect very easily with black people. I've lived a diverse life. Come to think of it, I also connect easily with every ethnic minority. Moreso than white people. I was raised in areas where, as a white person, I was a part of the minority. In a room, I generally gravitate to the coloured side.

I'm a champion of fairness. That's precisely why stuff like this annoys me. It's racism under the guise of 'being fair'. Fair to everybody aside from the privileged white male. Which is every white male. Not that I'm suggesting privileged white males should be left out either. Great writing takes talent and dedication to craft... it also takes experience of the subject being written about. That should be the only criteria.

Diversity is just another mindfuck to keep us segregated and of the belief that racism exists. I went to a school where there were three or four white people in a class of 32. I went to care homes where I was the only white person... at least that survived. Other white kids that arrived were usually branded 'racists' beaten up and gone pretty quickly. I hung with a gang of black kids at 14, who would only rob whites and asians. I went to youth prison when the blacks were robbing white people at will.

So, I don't know what this diversity bullshit is about exactly. Go to Manchester and you'll find that Moss Side is just as downtrodden as Salford. Or, take Birmingham, Chelmsley Wood is just as downtrodden as Handsworth.

The only prejudice in the world is economic. It doesn't matter what colour you are, all that matters is if you're rich or poor... and it's always been like that. The rest is just bullshit that clouds the truth. Gives people keywords they can repeat that makes them sound smart without actually having to think for themselves.

Ah - yeah.

This is page two of their application.
