Hadn't done one of these "hello" posts yet, though I've ventured into some discussions already.

Hi.  Name is Ken Kerns.

I have a semi-part-time blog (http://speaking.kenkerns.com), and have self-published four books.  My first attempt at screenwriting was just posed.  (Look for "The Making of an Idealist".)

I'm looking forward to spending more time on SimplyScripts if simply to interact with others out there who are writing - I've spent too much time on Facebook or in online government simulations lately and welcome the change of venue.

Welcome to SS, Ken. I'll read yours if you read mine. My short MUSED was just posted today.

What, pray tell, is an online government simulation?   Do I even want to know?

A "govsim" is essentially a group writing exercise, like the high school club Mock Congress, where people role-play congressmen and try to become Senator or President.  If you're a political nerd, it'd be addicting.  If you like to write (or, like me, would think speechwriting would be a dream job), it's also very addicting.

I'll take a look at Mused, definitely.  And I'll try not to just skim it like I did some others this morning (did that during work, hence the skimming).

Welcome to SS, Ken.

Self-published 4 books, eh. Can you share some of that work ethic, please?

American politics have always been a source of interest to me, so will give your script a look soon.

Interesting - well, not interesting to me, but I can see the appeal. I'm not politically minded, so I couldn't get in to that, but as a writer I definitely see why it could be fun.

Thanks, I'd appreciate it. I'm reading "Idealist" right now. It'll take a while to get my thoughts together once I finish, so I'll probably post something about it tomorrow.

Pete, I did a "live-blog" of sorts in taking notes for "Mused".  It's a good script and has potential - a few minor editorial things and a couple thoughts.  They're posted over on your thread.  Look forward to your thoughts on mine.

Dimitris, feel free.  I'm not an overly active blogger (I tend to avoid writing what everyone else is saying, just because that's boring), and I keep a close eye on my alma mater, so that might not interest you, but you're welcome to poke around the content.

4 books may sound impressive - but it would have been more so had I found an agent and done the real publishing thing.  After a few form-letter responses and mostly non-responses, I decided I'd rather see it on my bookshelf even if it never ends up on Borders' bookshelves.  (Fortunately, self-publishing allows me to still sell them online at places like Amazon.com.)

Anyway, that's enough babbling for me.  I tend to do that.

Welcome, Ken...

I minored in Poly Sci so your work should be interesting to me - assuming I can recall all that I learned... (o:

Heh.  Minoring in polisci is not required to understand my screenplay (I hope).  Think of it as a good-natured drama.  And if you ever care to read my books, think of them as a set of conspiracy thrillers, and you'll be fine.
