I had an E-mail today from a senior high schooler at a school for the Arts, and she wants to make 'Howl' (the script I submitted recently) as a short film. On the face of it this seems great, but there's a slightly snag. I'm already planning on producing this film myself and am in talks with people about casting. I want to make my version of it, but also don't really want to turn the kid down (plus I'm sort of interested to see their take on the script).

So my question is this, can I make my own film version of 'Howl' and also let the high schools senior do it? Or is there some legality that I haven't thought of that means that I can't? Or is it just douchebaggery to have 2 filmed versions of my script .

The high school kids are not distributing, so it doesn't seem like it should be a problem.

...just in case, I'd make it clear to the high school student that you're allowing permission to film only.  No rights to the script (obviously), and no permission to distribute it to festivals, etc.  Otherwise, might be interesting IMHO.

Yeah I emailed her back saying she can do it but just not to distribute it or go into festivals and such. Also asked her to let me see it when she's done (just out of curiosity), so we'll see how it pans out.
