I need a writer for a short film that I am going to direct for the north shore film festival.  I haven't directed anything for over a year so I thought this was a good way to get back into the game.  The script must be 8 pages or less with minimal locations.  I am only aloud to have a $500 budget.  The script must be about something topical, eg: poverty, drug addiction, illness, or enviromental, something that effects the community.  Now there is no pay, all I can offer is writer credit.  The film will be shown at the North shore film festival in British Columbia.  I know there are a lot of gifted writers here and this would be a great way for people to see what you can do.  If you are interested you can email me, my adress is in my profile.

PS:  There are prizes for different catagories, so if it won best script you could win up to $500CDN.

Thanks Andrew and Rapture, I think both of those would be fun scripts to do, but what this festival wants are stories about issues that affect everyone, both those scripts are more like entertiainment, I have read both of them and thought they were quite good.  What I need is a script that deals with what people go through everyday, take a look at the webstite i posted, they explain it much better than I can.  Now the script doesn't already have to be written, if you think you have an idea and want to write it that's great, the submission isn't till July, so there's time.  If any of you has an idea or wants to collaberate that is great.  There is lots of time.

I'd be happy to write something for you to consider. I had a look at the website. It's a bit unclear about the theme but it says:

"The focus of the 2006 North Shore Film Festival of Life is 'North Shore Stories'; a specific theme for the 2006 festival will be released on June 20th, 2006."

So, that means they haven't released the theme yet, right?

The script must be about something topical, eg: poverty, drug addiction, illness, or enviromental, something that effects the community.

I haven't looked at the website, but since Martin is putting himself out there for you, you should take a look at his script "Adam".  That might fit the bill.

Hey, it's my tiny, little IMDb!

Thanks for the tip Bert.  I read Adam and it was really good, it does deal with the issues that this festival is looking for, good job martin.  the only thing is that it's too long at it's present state, it would need to be cut by 13 pages, and the location needs to be changed, but it was good.  That is one I would definatly consider.  thanks again for the info Bert, and thanks Martin for the putting yourself out there.

Thanks TBWCF, and Bert for pointing it out. Yeah, Adam needs some work. I guess I could rewrite it and make it short, or I could write something new. I have quite a few tales from the underground just waiting to be written.

If you name a location and/or a specific theme you want to explore I'll see if I can put something together for you.

Thank you so much Doc.  I liked Adam a lot, it was just too long for what they want, the script needs to be 8 pages or less, but if you were able to cut it down to that it could work, or if you have any original idea's that is also great.

the location is british columbis canada, or more specific, vancouver.  I'm sure you've seen vancouver in movies before considering half of the movies out there are shot here, I would like only like 3 or 4 locations max, I love shooting outdoors even though that is risky here considering it rains a LOT.

The person I have producing this for me is trying to get me a little more info on it, he knows the person who is one of the people who heads this festival, so when he calls me I will give you more info.

one other thing.  I would like one of the characters to be male, between the ages of 16-20, I have a friend who is an actor who I would like to put in this(he is also the person producing this for me)  he's 18 but can play between 16-20, he kinda looks like a younger Ryan Gosling, he was in the short I shot a while back.

anyways thanks for helping me out a lot, I think this could really help both of us, there will be many people attending this festival who are in the film business so it doesn't hurt to be seen.

thanks.

I'm new to the board.
I've got an idea for you.  1-2 locations. 2 characters, maybe 3.
The SON could be in the 16-20 age range.
The MOTHER might be a factor, or she could be O.S.
The 3rd character (if Mom is a fleshed-out character) could be a MAN or WOMAN.  He/she would be the main character.
It's a quick-read story, could be very dramatic.
Deals some with poverty, lots with compassion.
Would take actors with chops to really pull it off.
My wife told me a variation of this story from her experiences.
I'll e-mail the story line.

okay, just got more word on this.  there is now no specific theme for this festival, it can be about anything that is topical.  I have got 2 locations I can shoot in, one is a highschool, the other is a house, so I want something to do with teenagers so the age range should be around 14-18, so it could be about sex, sexuality, drugs, school violence, bullies, stuff like that.  with my new job, plus my reg job, plus work on the farm, plus my girlfriend, I really don't have time to write a script(or at least a good script), that, plus there are much better writers here that could probably write a better script than me.  This is for a film festival so I want to make the best film I can, which means for me to get someone who is a better writer than me(which is most of the people here)

So, if anyone is interested let me know.  this isn't paid, but you will get sole writer credit, plus if there is any money awarded I will send you a check myself(in cdn funds od course)

If you could get an arena, with ice I could write/give you a script involving the character Casey (A foul mouthed 16 year old from my series) People love that character, I love writing him into shorts.

Does this school have a playground? If so I've also got a story where Casey was set to fight a bully in the yard. Of course the character is not a fighter so he has to come up with a clever way to get out of it.

Just a few ideas.
