Hi all,

Great site!  I'm very sorry if this isn't the place to ask this kind of thing but I'm looking for writers for an X-Files style short that I want to produce/direct.  I won't say too much more about it incase this is totally the wrong place...

If it's ok to go ahead and ask some questions could someone reply just to let me know?  I don't want to look stupid!

Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hey Ty,

Welcome to SS and, yes, you've come to the "write" place (hehe - always wanted to do that).

There are literally tons of writers here and probably any number of them (myself included) could write an X-Files style short for you.

But being a bit psychic about these things I see a future where each and every one of these writers will ask you to tell them a little about yourself, your experience and in general why they should spend their time writing a short for you (when their writing queue is probably longer than a football field).

So I thought I would save us all the trouble and ask "Who are you and why should we work with you?"

Cheers,

Michael

Thanks Michael!

Yeah, I thought you'd want to know more but I didn't want to post too much in case I was in the wrong place..

Basically, as I said in the other post I'm not a professional but then again I'm also not an amateur.
I have always been very interested in film and television (and more often than not enjoyed 'the makings of' films rather than most main features)  And I have always wanted to produce my own short film.

I have made a few 3 minute films but have never attempted to actually produce a short (mainly because of shoddy equipment but Christmas has been good to me and has given me a new camera!)  And now I feel is the time to actually get down to some work and produce something really good.  I use Apple Mac computers for all my editing work (so you know I'm aiming for high quality)

The short would be directed and produced to the best of my abilities, the main reason I want to make a short is to prove to myself that can do it  and I feel the writing credits would add greatly to someones show reel.  I have always loved the X-Files and I feel a dark story something along the lines of an episode would make a great short, I have an idea of a basic back story but alot of blanks need filling!

I'm not sure what else to say (without going into too much depth) except if you feel you have the time to help me on this project then it would be very much appreciated and of course, all due credit would be given.

Many thanks in advance for any possible help that you may be able to give and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

TyEmery.

If your produced work is online, you could post a link.  You'd want to see if we can do the job right; we'd like what you can do.

You might also get some people to help you if you critique some scripts here.  Every so often, we get people who fall out of the sky, here, and ask people for scripts to produce.  In fact, one of your fellow Englishmen have been posting requests for writers each time an idea pops in his head.  He's been doing it for about two years and refuses to participate in the boards other than his repeated requests.

Pretty clueless, if you ask me.

Hey Ty;

Suggest also cruising on over to the short section, where there are hundreds of fine stories to choose from. Just be sure to get permission from the writer first...

Good luck!

Joe
