While it may not be as clever-funny as "Team America" and "South Park" or as stupid-funny as "Cannibal: The Musical" and "BASEketball," there is still quite a bit to be said about Trey Parker and Matt Stone's sophomore effort, the pornographic comedy "Orgazmo."

Joe Young, a mormon doing his mission work in California, is just trying to do his civil duty while building a healthy and loving relationship with his fiance, Lisa, back home (where else, Utah).  The only problem is that he is also trying to raise enough money for himself and Lisa to get married in the Salt Lake City mormon temple.  How is a die-hard mormon who happens to know really great karate supposed to raise such money?  Why, by playing an X-rated superhero named Orgazmo.

Thrust into the world of pornography, Joe (whose pseudo-porn name becomes Tom Hung) is shown acts of sexuality that his mormon mind could never comprehend.  The director, Maxxx Orbison, is a deviant sex-hound and also an evil genius... of sorts.  The rest of the porno posse is not much better, including Parker's frequent co-star Dian Bachar who plays, of all super heroes, Choda Boy who wears atop his head a very interesting helmet.  He's not evil, but he is a genius.  Why is he in porn then?  "An over-active sex drvie."

What makes "Orgazmo" good is not only the clever script (I love some of the evil henchmens' lines), but also the fact that this is actually a pretty decent super hero film.  There's an origin story, an evil genius villian (who, by the end of the film, actually gains a super villian moniker), a side kick, and a damsel in distress.  Also working for the film is some great performances from Parker, Bachar, and Stone in one of the funniest roles as Dave The Lighting Guy.  And, on a side note, who knew that Ron Jeremy was actually a good actor?

What doesn't work for the movie is a couple of things.  Besides some of the jokes falling flat, some of Parker's co-stars (noticably the ones whom actually have a background in pornography) are not the best actors and actressess.  Then again, it could be argued that that is part of the comedy.  Still, it's destracting.  Also, this is not for the easily offended.  Then again, it's a flick from the guys who made "South Park," so that shouldn't be surprising.

Now, despite the last few sentences, it is surprising that "Orgazmo" is slapped with an NC-17 rating (which would explain why most believe this one was straight-to-video).  There is literrally like five seconds of nudity and it's never below the waist.  The real reason for the rating is supposedly the dialogue, though it's no worse than the content found in "American Pie" (one might even say it's cleaner than "Pie").

While not a movie for everybody, it worked for me.  Then again, I really enjoyed "Cannibal," "BASEketball," "Team America," and, of course, "South Park" (in both TV and film version).

Movie: *** out of ****

DVD Extras: **** out of ****

Technically a 2-disc release (it's a flip disc), if you are a fan of "Orgazmo," you should be ultra pleased with the DVD treatment that it received.  There are two cuts of the film (R-rated and Unrated) with three audio commentaries.  Two from the cast and crew, which, if you've heard the "Cannibal" track, you'll know are fantastic.  Parker delivers great commentaries, which makes it a dissapointment that there are none planned for the "Team America" DVD.  The third track is a "Celebrity Track" which includes the voices of celebs who had nothing to do with the movie (some of which, like Kevin Smith, admit to never have even seen it).  There's also a plethora of deleted scenes which are, in a rarity, all fantastic.  They include commentary from Parker who, again, supplies a great track (during a particularily funny scene, Parker even curses himself for not including it in the finished film).  There are also some surprisingly indepth making-of's, some of which were made during the filming of the movie (evident through Parker's and Bachar's clothing) and some of which were made rather recently.  Finishing the disc off are some trailers and teasers.  A great package for such an obscure title.
